FFS freezing 6800GT

I have a leadtek 6800GT. This is my second one the first card I RMA'ed. This second card is doing exact same problem. Freezing randomly in games (even in game menus).

Ive turned fastwrites off in the bios, ive tried 66.31 drivers, ive tried updating my motherboard AGP drivers. (VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers Version - 4.53). Ive tried updating my soundcard drivers.

The screen will freeze for 5 seonds, and the sound will loop.. then it goes back to nornal.

The 6800GT is at stock. I installed winxp fresh when i got the card.

system is

Gigabyte K8VNXP motherboard
AMD 64 3400
1 gig of ram

im just about to smash up this fucking computer :mad:

any ideas guys?

Generally if you're using a high performance part like the 6800GT, you'll want to avoid using the PSU that came with your case unless it's an antec or a shuttle. Before you do anything else, I would try another power supply. FSP/Sparkle/Fortron make cheap, excellent PSUs for the price. If you can't find any made by the above manufacturer, try getting your hands on an antec, enermax, or even vantec PSU. yeah I guess its worth a shot. shame I havent got any other power supplies that I could try.

Before I do this i think i'll stick a fresh install of xp on.

These freezes are beyond a joke now.
 
The second I saw you were running that POS raidmax powersupply my stomach turned.....those things are garbage. I used to have a raidmax case, and the PSU was giving me stability issues even with a 2.6C/9800XT slightly OC'd system.

Ditch that PSU asap, but dont settle for any less then a 430W Antec Truepower....or something equivalent.
 
Another vote for PSU, RAIDMAX = CRAPOLA,

I still have a problem where my card has short 5 secound freezes every now and then when clocked over 400 Mhz, i htink a BIOS update on the card will it, i have some newer BIOS files saved to floppy allready but havent got a chance to try it yet.

So the PSU can really cause this type of problem then?... I always assumed that people that said oh nah you need to spend shitloads on a PSU (as in that Antec = £70 :eek: ) were kinda nuts... as ive never come across this prob before.

I hope it is this man, im really sick of this. Ive spent alot of money on this current system to be proper disapointed. Just want it all to flow.

Whats this 66.31 drivers? I have the BFG6800GT now (Ultra died) and I use the 61.77 drivers from Nvidia. Also I'm unaware (untill now) on how the Raidmax psu's are but my TT 480 does alright with the OC GT and AMD 64 3400+ (400/1.1 gpu/2.4GHz cpu@1.5 volts) I tried for the PC Power Coolings 510 Deluxe but ran short on $ at the time (I didnt want to wait, patience is not one of my virtues) I have not had any probs with my setup. The psu is one of the most under-rated parts of a rig. Whats the point of having all the "good shtuff" if it cant operate properly because of insufficient power... and smooth flowing power as well? Good luck though.

To make a long story short.....yes......power supplies CAN cause problems like this.....and worse. A Powersupply is the LAST thing that should be looked over when someone's building a newer system like this, and It's to bad that you decided to go with the Raidmax PSU in the first place.

You could also be really blunt and think about it this way.....You're getting a case AND fans, AND a power supply for like $80 CAD.....what kind of quality do you actually expect out of any single thing in a setup like that? I'm not trying to bash your purchase, its just that the power supply DOES have to go, and it probly should have right from day one.

Yeah i understand what your saying. I guess I just assumed it would be ok, silly really.. as you said, considering the price.

The freezes seem to happen more so when ive hit the fire button, jumped, running, or when the game starts off. or just as a door is opening. And it seems to happen even more so if i OC / crank up AA / AF settings. Maybe that ties in with the card drawing more current when OC'ed and working harder with settings and res up high. But then again ive seen it freeze when its just in a game menu.

I'll take alook at that link about recommended PSUs and make a choice i think, damn desprate i am.
