I am looking to use around 3, 200 Watt DC to DC ATX power supplies to build a 600ish watt power supply that I can power from a switching ac adapter that outputs 12v DC.
I will probably use a GTX 280 or 295 video card, x58 motherboard and i7 920 CPU with 4 x 2GB ram modules.
The power supplies I am looking at getting (http://www.short-circuit.com/product/PW-200-M.html) only have a single ATX connector on them, so I was planning on doing some dicing and splicing to create the extra connectors I need to make a 24pin atx connector, the 6pin pcie connectors, and power cables for the drives.
I am wondering how I should distribute the power. I don't know if one 200 watt PS would be adequate for powering just the motherboard, and combine the other two outputs in parallel for powering the vid card and drives, or if I should just combine the outputs of all 3.
I am not sure how many watts each of the components pull when the system is working at 100% usage. if the cpu is pulling 130 watts, that leaves 70 watts for motherboard and connected devices/fans.
The reason for all this is I want to make a "suitecase" computer and am looking to make the case as small as possible. I hate lugging around ac adapters though so I will possibly put the adapter in the case as well. I am still working out dimensions and which way I want to go in size, which kind of depends on the size of the monitor too which, I am still undecided on (22" or 24" maybe?).
