I recently got a Ferarri 3200+ and very quickly started getting blue screens after powering on or coming out of hibernate. The blue screens were Machine Check Exception, and would only happen after the system had been powered off or in hibernate for some time- a simple reboot and the machine would work no problem. I called Acer and sent the machine back. They sent back a new machine, but the harddrive was the same. Since then, the Machine Check Exception has become less frequent, though still after a hibernate or after first powering it on, and a reboot still fixes the problem. However, it now blue screens whenever I power down the machine, right before you would expect it to power off. No specific blue screen message on the power down. Any ideas where the problem could lie? Could it be the harddrive? And if so- would a reformat fix it, or should I send it back to Acer again?

Format it. If the blue screens still occur, get the hard drive replaced.

the blue screening is definetly a windows issue
one of 4 things could be causing it
1. bad windows load
2. windows coruped by dodgy HD
3. windows going eeeep because of a hardware issue
4. windows going eeeep because of a previos hardware issue that no longer exists

from having sent the machine back
its hard to tell what they replaced on it
so it could in all honesty be any thing
i would suspect something is up with windows though
formating and reinstalling windows is the quickest thing to do to hunt down the problem
if after the reload it works fine for a while then starts acting up its likly the HD is on its way out and is causing coruption
if it starts doing it again right after the reload its something other than windows or the HD
if it works great after the reload then it was eiter a bad load of windows or it just was still unhappy about something that had happened before
