i decided that i was going for broke.(in a budget way)
My sig had the spectsof my prime game rig.

anyhow set my vid setting to "application pref"
man did i get soem lousy scores
14812 for 3dmard 2001se
and
4868 for 3dmark 2003 303
i give up...this is a race i cant compete in

Actually, those are really good scores for a 9600XT, even with the GPU and GFX memory overclocked. All of those super-high scores from ATI cards were made with the 9700 Pro, 9800 Pro and 9800XT cards.

Also, are you overclocking your 2.4c P4? Or are you running that CPU at stock?

(By the way, your 3DMark03 score is actually beating all of the 3.6GHz P4 systems with any of the 9600-series cards, while your 3DMark 2001 score is par for the 3.6GHz P4/9600 series class.)

Why give up? Have you tried playing some games? You know, do what your prime rig was built to do?

I have a feeling you'd be perfectly happy all of a sudden if you played some CoD, Unreal tournament, Painkiller demo, or whatever. Those meaningless numbers would suddenly mean diddly when you start having fun with your hardware.

oh i play games, I play a LOT of games.
my main game however is mech warrior 4.(DX8) it plays real good.

I just suddenly realized last nigh that for the first time in my life i actually had top of the line hardware.(kinda)
I wanted to see if my game rig could stand up. i honestly thought the scores we bad.
ive played chrome at 40 to 60 fps maxed out(i used fraps) and only that openingscene in C&C generalszero hour laggs a tad.
Look i know it dont make sence. I know that the 3dmark scoring system has been dogged out lately, but ive been a bottom barelfeeder for a long long time (never could afford decent hardware.) now that i sorta got a decent rig theres been a itch in the back of my mind i been wantin to scratch.
Mabey im programmed. anyhow thanks for the kind words!

I run an ATi 9600XT with a P4 2.4C (my last comp was a Radeon 7200/P4 1.3, it used to be a power comp in the heyday, heh). I'm getting around those same scores in both 3DMark tests, and 20K+ in Aquamark.

You shouldn't feel gypped at all, it is a damn nice card and can run BF1942/DC mod, UT2004 demo, CoD, etc. very smoothly with effects cranked and at 1280x1024@85 Hz.

Don't put all your faith in synthetic benchmarks. Heck, if you didn't even know the scores and it ran all your games very well, would you care at all? :)
