I'm really happy with my e6300 as it's somewhat stable @ 3.2Ghz on water(as my sig indicates), but I'm wondering if it's worth the jump up to an e6600?

It's only another $100 from what I spent & I plan on selling the 6300 if I do. Yes, I plan to overclock it the maximum I can & be stable. I'm also upgrading my water loop at the moment is why I ask.

Opinions please & thank you :)

I currently have my 6300 running at 400 x 7 on air for a 2.8GHz overclock. If I could get a 6600 that would be gauranteed to run at 400 x 9, then I would definitely buy it. That's just my opinion though.

if you're at 3.2 already, an e6000 is going to be extremely tough to get over 3.5-3.6 without good water cooling or more. If you're gaming you definitely don't need the extra 2-300mhz. I'd spend the money on a better video card (if you need it).

I have both processors and gotta admit the 6600 owns the livin s*** out of the 6300

I just posted test results in the Conroe overclocking thread of 3,728 MHz on air cooling with an E6400 which for the moment would put me at the current #1 spot for air cooled E6400 Might even get one or two notches higher than that but then again might not LOL ;)

Would I pay $100 more to get an E6600? Nope not worth another hundred

I would put the 100 bucks in my pocket.

Thanks guys!

That's the kind of feedback I was looking for.. Looks like I'll hold out for Quad-Core :D

By the way, I'd kill to have a higher multiplier on this CPU!!!! I know it could handle it.

errrrrrr!!! double post carp!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup I aggree keep the 100 dollars, if you are happy with your processor hold off till the quad core become cheap.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Exactly.... Hold off for now. I made the switch from a E6300 OC'ed @ 3.23GHz to a E6600 in hopes that I would be able to hit 3.6GHz, but It wont. Im @ 3.54GHz, while having 4mb cache is great, its not really an upgrade you should do now. Wait until the Q6600 is with in 530 dollars or so, and buy that. That is an upgrade 4 cores @ 2.4GHZ and should be a good OC'er.

Okay, sorry to be bringing back this topic, but I did take the plunge on the e6600 & holy shit!!!!

I haven't even begun to really OC this baby yet & it's waaaay faster than my OC'ed 6300 even at stock speed. I've got it running 2.7GHz @1.31 vCore and temps are hovering around 45C. All this is awaiting a transfer to a new case with a better water cooling setup as well.

It all started because my PSU started to get flaky & overheating causing random reboots. I really wanted to get a "great" PSU & another forum member traded me his Fortron Source Epsilon FX-700GLN for my e6300. I am just awaiting the PSU to arrive & I will start seeing what this chip will do.

I don't know if the stepping matters much, but here's a pic of the product label & CPU-Z screenie.
