Heard that there is a tweak or something if you have an ati card, for FEAR. Have not been able to track any info down on it? Has anyone heard this before, may just be forum rumor. Thanks

FEAR tweak??

heres a tweak. Turn off catalyst ai. It does more harm then good. I confirmed that I see a 2fps drop in all games with it on. Other than that, be sure that if you have 4x ani enabled in games, its set to application controlled in drivers. Same for all other settings including AA. Otherwise both the drivers and the game are doing the rendering pass for aniscopic and AA, killing your performance. Turn off Vsync for the best frame rates. thats all I can think off. oh and if its for Fear, turn off EAX and set your sound options to basic. It kills performance for whatever bugged reason.

I think that was to do with an older version of the cats, and has since been fixed.

I never knew that, so having AA set in both the control panel and in-game is killing performance. So is the best bet, to have all the settings like AA etc.. set in control panel, and off in game?? Thanks, im gonna try this now. Along with the sound settings also.

No. It's best to have it set in the game and not in the control panel. I keep everything set to "application preference" in the control panel and set it all in-game (it's the only real way to do it). Although I disagree with what kdog has to say about catalyst AI, as I actually see about a 2FPS increase in all my games with it enabled.
BTW, the FEAR renaming issue has been fixed since 5.12, I believe.
