2 * Maxtor 120GB 8MB SATA @ ICH5R striped (128k)

Whaddya think?

seems HDTach ia have some difficulty there :p

you try Winbench99?

I was thinking the HDTach was a little erratic!
I just ran it a few more times and this is the result which came out every time.

Haven't tried winbench99, will download it now.

Ok, I may read alot more than I post, but are those scores really that good?

Here's my HDtach. This is with my new 74 Raptor, SINGLE drive. I should mention I am not a fan of raid 0. I experimented with it and was not impressed.

Granted, his max reads are faster, but my average is better.
Not trying to flame or provoke, I just dont understand....

My raid looks same way on HDtach

both tests do better if you run a smaller striping I have heard, but may suffer in real world apps.

Fear this:

10x250GB SATA drives, with a (not mounted yet) 36GB Raptor for the OS. Normally takes me an hour or so to build a system, but damn, didn't even finish this one in an afternoon (it's not done yet)! Took a while to mount everything up and get the CPUs in etc.

ikari303:
3ware controller? I have the exact same case with 7 x 120Gb drives in hotswap bays.

No, on a 64-bit 133MHz PCI-X bus. Although, the card's actually a 64-bit, 66-MHz card. It's a TYAN Thunder K8W board with 2 Opterons in it.

LOL and I have that board :p

the 2nd cpu is hidin behind those pretty red cables ;)
what are you runin for RAM?

Yeah, it's kinda hard to see, I figure that's why you made the assumption you did :p I've got 1GB Corsair XMS ECC in there, one 512MB stick per CPU.

hmmm...(I thought I saw a single stick per) the drawback of that config is you cant do 128bit interleaving, are you planning on more?

Page 20

"Configure memory symetrically for each cpu for best performance"

Chart of 64bit and 128bit support

Yeah, I know about that, I'm planning on adding more to the system in the future, that's why.

yeh that registered and ECC SDRAM is a bit pricey aint it? :p
since mine was for animation and rendering I bit the bullet and ponied up for 4 x 1GB sticks

ouch

so why do you need 2.5TB of storage? (before RAID)

more pics please! :)

Ice: I'm building the system for a customer, unfortunately its not mine :( It's the media server for his system, serves DVDs and music to 2 Shuttle XPCs with P4 3GHzs on i875p. Quite the media setup if you ask me.

I'll take some more pictures when I get my new digital camera (Canon EOS Digital Rebel, paid for by this deal ;) ).
