I have a problem with FEAR Combat... I recently bought a ATi Radeon x1950XT and when I try to put FEAR on HIGH Settings I still kinda get some lag... Did I waste my money on this video card? :(

i bet its your 1gb of ram holding you back.
does it run smooth in some spots and stutter in others?
watch for hard drive access...

and what res are u trying to run at? using any AA or AF?

1280x1024 AF x4 no AA and it runs smooth in some spots and shitty in others.

unless someone else chimes in...the only thing i can do is test FEAR when i get home with just 1gb of ram and i can let you know how it goes.
i'm really leaning towards a memory issue though. 1gb just doesnt cut it anymore for computer gaming.

I don't have a 1950 but I can tell you Fear eats up memory. I have run my system with only a gig of memory. And That's about how it performes. I would consider getting anther gig of memory. I know when I load FEAR I see memory use around 1.5GB (-400 for system)

FEAR's combat sequences will bring most single card solutions to their knees, especially if you have all settings max'ed out otherwise, except those you indicated.
The graphics demands are pretty extreme. I would occasionally see frame rate decrease with my 7900GTXs in SLI. I dont have any problem with the 8800s though.:D
You might try reducing the graphics demands and see how your framerate does. There also seems to be an intrinsic buggy-ness the FEAR that just causes problems intermittantly, in my opinion. I've had FEAR through three different system configurations now, and every once in a while the game just does bizarre shit..........stop, reboot, \reload and it runs fine again.......I dont have a clue sometimes.

Do you have a Logitech mouse by chance? If you do, switch it with another brand of mouse. (No I am not kidding.) See if performance improves.

logitech mice never have been bad for me and you have defiantly got to get 2gb of ram if you want ultra high settings! i use mx518 and my son bangs the hell out of it on the desk and its never had a problem!

My rig runs fear combat at 1280x960 AF 16x and 2x AA and everything maxed. The only map that brings my fps down(50+) would be dead wood. All of the other maps I get a 70-170fps. Im not sure how the 1950xt stacks againt my 1900xtx though. Im using a logitech mouse and the g15 keyboard if anyone was wondering.

Just tested 1280x1024 and fps drop was minimal and didn't stutter.

Haha, past experiences I presume?

Yes I have. Do some research on performance problems in FEAR. The bulk of people bitching have crap machines with little ram and crappy video cards, but there are some documented Logitech mouse issues and the game. It happened to me on my P5W DH based rig with dual X1950XTX's.

I only have 1gb and play FEAR combat at 1440x900 all on high no AA or AF. ( I don't notice it on MP) It's usually above 60fps but at the beginning of a new map it lags sometimes. I assume it's due to hd swapping.

Issues I have encountered and somewhat resolved in FEAR games:

1) Mouse movement like molasses - I moved the receiver for my MX Revolution from the rear of my case to my 2405FP USB port and the sluggish/erratic behavior ceased.

2) The above didn't resolve a frame rate issue that I noticed with ATI x19xx cards where the game just runs like crap regardless of the in game settings. - Renamed the executable for the game to something.exe and it was smooth. I could play at 1920x1200 with no AA and everything else max and no soft shadows.

3) All is well until I leave the game running for about 5-10 minutes with no movement or even during gameplay the game gradually goes from super smooth to incredibly laggy where I suspect frame rates get no higher than 15fps. Upgrading to Cat 6.12 seems to have helped somewhat where I have to leave the game running with no activity before the game starts running like crap. If I am playing constantly without pauses I don't notice any slowdown. Also I'd like to note that when using the 6.12 drivers I no longer need to use the renamed executables and I am able to play games with Cat AI turned on without any issues.

FEAR and it's expansions are the only games where I notice this behavior. I'm running Vista btw but others have these issues in XP and the resolutions are similar.
