Hello,
I'm planning an upgrade over christmas for more memory in my deskop. I have a Dell Precision 490. It currently has 2GB of DDR2-FBDIMM ram. The dell manual states that if I do not match my addition to what is currently in there, then I will suffer reduced performance.
My question: Is it better to go with 2x1GB sticks and add to what I have (will total 4GB) or should I go with 2x1GB and 2x2GB for a total of 6GB ram? Will I notice any major difference in speeds between the two?
I manly use this desktop for gaming, VM work and some light CAD work. I'm also planning on adding a 2nd Xeon 5160 around the same time.
Thanks,
Mike.
Specs:
Xeon 5160 @ 3GHz
2GB DDR2-FBDIMM
WD Raptor - 80GB
Sapphire Radeon 4870 - 1GB.
Windows 7 x64
