Fax Appliance?

I'm looking to replace an aging and unreliable Windows XP machine that's currently only purpose is an incoming fax 'server'. The faxes are stored on a shared folder and users go access the share to view the faxes.

This fax 'server' is 100% dedicated to a single sender and the line is provided by a third party, so we're 'stuck' with a conventional phone line. We do not need to send, only receive

The business is staffed by a majority of part time employees, so they check this folder for faxes when necessary. Proactive alerts are not necessary due to the nature of the process.

I'm looking to replace this PC with a physical appliance. I've only been able to find fax software or eFax services that fax to e-mail. We don't need to blast everyone with e-mail, because only the employees working at any given time need to be aware.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a fax 'appliance' that would be accessible via file share or even web URL? Active directory integration is nice, but not necessary.

You could go with the eFax option. Then create a mailbox for a "service account". Have all the faxes sent to this service account instead of a live person. Then write a powershell script to scrape the files from the email account and dump the faxes into a folder.

This is how I'm handling a similar situation. In our environment, customers fax in orders. I scrape them out of email and dump them into a folder. The folder is watched by another program and responds to the fax...

Do you already have a Windows Server onsite? Why not add the Fax Server role to it and plug in an external serial modem?

Physical fax server for a single fax? That's a point of failure that should be eliminated. You really should eFax that for the business you're supporting.

Castelle Faxpress units will do what you need. I have a two line version that I'm going to be selling. PM me if interested.

FaxFinder is an appliance based solution and they work pretty well.

Castelle was bought by Opentext.

Opentext has multiple levels of fax appliances, we use them, nothing amazing, but pretty solid.

No need for apliances anymore.

Just use emails and your smartphone camara.
