I'm looking for a good way to present storage over Fibre Channel. I know Openfiler does it, but god damn that software is so shady. Any other good options? Free version of NexentaStor? Linux with SCST? Oh yeah, it has to be CHEAP. What do you guys like?

Nexenta is based on the Illumos kernel, just like Open Indiana.

It is extremely simple to get Open Indiana or OmniOS up and running, then install Napp-It on-top for web management:
http://www.napp-it.org/

After that, configuring Comstar for fibreChannel target mode is easy:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1459/glddq.html

Nexenta just polishes up the web GUI in my opinion.

You can have a fully functional SAN running with web-gui and fiber channel storage in under an hour (assuming you have a fast pipe to download Napp-It).

Opensolaris can put any qlogic 4gb fc hba in garget mode and present a zfs array via fc. Very handy. Im setting up this very thing for my home network. I have gotten the zfs server set up and presenting fc targets, im just working on getting my esxi hosts together. I'll have benchmarks in 2 weeks or so.

Oi+napp-it is what I am using. Hp dl385 g2, sas3801e, hp msa70, 25 72gb 10k sas drives, qlogic quad 4gb fc hba. Only thing left is a good ssd for zil. Im not even going to be using a fc switch, just directly connected to the esxi hosts.
