Faulty drive?

Bought an OEM 250gb WD IDE hard drive from newegg to use in an enclosure. Got the drive, popped it in my computer to format it, and as soon as I switched the computer on, the hard drive emitted this loud clicking noise for about 7 seconds. Once the computer completely POST, it stopped.

No matter what jumper setting I put the hard drive on, it isn't detected by BIOS or Windows. The system is running 1 SATA drive with the OS installed, and just this one IDE drive (I took the other out)

Any ideas? :confused:

edit: when the computer is running, the hard drive seems to be operating normally in terms of what a hard drive does...meaning, it's vibrating slightly and its getting hot.

Also, when the drive is in slave mode, the POST sequence pauses, picks up an IDE device, and then gives an error saying "the device is not recognized, press f1 to continue"
