fastest single threaded performer?

Title says it all. What's the fasted single threaded performer these days?

I primarily play FSX which has very limited threading (fibers), so I do not gain much from multicore. It appears that my Athlon 3200 is awfully close in performance to these new multi cores on this game.

Intel Core 2 Duos are currently the fastest at single-threaded tasks despite being dual core.

He's asking for single threaded performance. Not which single core chip was the fastest.

A Core 2 will be faster in everything.

Look at SuperPI or nearly any game. (95% of games are only single threaded) Core 2 is the fastest at all of them.

So get yourself any Core 2 chip OC to around 3Ghz++ and you've got the fastest chip around.

I believe that SuperPi is multithreaded. largely irrelevant to me. Granted that affinity will shift threads from core to core.

Maybe FSX (whatever that may be) is not CPU limited in your setup?

I've got a 3 year old PC. It's cpu limited. As time goes on I'm realizing that it is a shader heavy title, so it's mroe GPU dependant than FS9, but still cpu dependant first.

DX10 should streamline the rendering path expecially fro the shader based effects. As it is on DX9 cards with proper drivers under Vista, it's almost 25% faster. I can't wat to see how much DX10 shaders improve on that.
