Fastest browser EVER k - meleon

I'll have to give this a shot...for some reason Firefox seems to eat up a lot of processing power sometimes....I almost Never use IE anymore...actually yeah I never do unless a page has a problem in firefox.

firefox is a hog, i used to use opera , but now im stuck on k-meleon now, it just so lite and fast.

I havent delt with a slow browser yet. I use FF cuz of its extensions and themes.

Been there, done that, never thought it was fast. Been there again, done that again, just now, still the same to me. IE7 is about as fast, at least on this Core 2 Duo with 2GB and Vista Ultimate 64. Opera is still the fastest I've ever used, with Avant coming in a close second to that.

Same here. However Ive never heard of this K-Meleon program, might have to give it a try.

ff is a fat hog, just check the resources upon loading it, if you have alot of ram you wont notice it.

IE7 is a load of crap ! i think it worst than 6 , hence i stuck with opera, but opera is getitng to heavy now :(

I used that browser a few years ago on a windows 2000 server box I had in the house because IE was messed up and I was too lazy to fix it. I've also loaded it on a few machines since then. Great browser.

Does it scan plugins in the mozilla folder?

I wanna try it, but not bother with plugins. I'm tired of FF2's 100% cpu usage due to flash objects.

i had that problem up until yesterday, when everything worked fine :S i currently have 3 tabs of [H] open and CPU usage is floating between 0 and 15 :)

I'm an Opera user and K-Meleon's interface is just as light and fast. Opera's is still better, but if I need to use a Gecko browser, K-Meleon is the preferred one. FF, SeaMonkey and other Gecko browsers have heavy UIs. K-Meleon is the exception. It's quite good.

With that said though, don't forget about Swift. It's not completely usable yet, but it renders the [H] front page in a split second even on really, really slow boxes. I can't say that for Presto or Gecko.

Just tried Swift on Vista Ultimate 64. Took 11 seconds to start up the first time, then 3 the second immediately afterwards.

It's quick, might even consider it "swift" but it sure has a long long way to go. Rendering issues noted on most of the sites I hit in my brief testing period, but at version 0.2 I'd be pressed to even call it alpha at this point.

Always nice to keep abreast of new browsers though, but it most definitely can't touch anything currently available in production versions.

I use IE 7. It renders everything the way it needs to, looks best on windows... secure now... Accually, I never had a security problem... and always fast... I have like a 8MB down cable connection, and I have a 3.6Ghz Core 2 Duo...

I dont get why everyone complains? I really have never had a problem....

Also, it seems every browser has an issue with myspace except IE... why is that?

Well, look at IE's market share. It's on every Windows machine (save for the incredibly miniscule amount of ones where the users stripped it out with nLite or some other streamlining tool), so... with such a website you cater to the lowest common denominator, and that's IE.

The biggest issue I can see (and god how I hate doing it) is that nothing on MySpace looks good in any browser, period. I've yet to see a single MySpace page that I thought was even viewable considering how garish and ridiculous people seem to get when it comes to "TheirSpace." The colors, the images, the lousy background music...

"Oh god... make it stop... it hurts... oh god..." :D

Nothing can help with that...

Hrmm... faster? Well I don't know, I wouldn't sacrifice the plugins and setup I have with FF for a few split seconds. I have 2GB of RAM anyways. FF uses a lot of Memory, but it's not a big deal, if I'm browsing I'm not playing a game and that's the only other thing that uses memory. I hardly get to much CPU utilization on it. I don't see FF going all that slow anyways. Though I'm sure if you have a slower machine there are better browsers.

it funny cause IS is the only browser i have spyware issues with, everytime i do a scan lol :D

FF works much faster on my system imo. K-Melon is good but it technically runs the same on my system so i would rather keep FF as it has all the extensions and themes and looks + feels nicer :p.

Unless it has firefox's protection, have fun with the trojans.

If you're having problems with speed, you need to get out of the farm, and step up past dial up, because it's 2007.

I tried k-meleon when it came out. Wasn't even impressed then, and the state of the desktop browser was much worse.

Great post, chock full of good suggestions

Another secure browser is Browzar. It does not keep a history of your web searching at all.

Thanks for the links. I haven't tried it before, so I think I will just for fun.

A great option for use on an older machine or for a quick browse, but I need my add-ons for firefox. Not worth the small speed increase to loose all my add-ons. I'm addicted to them, they save me more time.

New Internet Explorer = It's fast, renders sites good, lots of features ( finally has tabbed browsing ).

Firefox = Same like IE.

Opera = Haven't used in a while but it had adverts unless you paid to get rid of them. But performance wise it was just as good as Firefox and IE.

I use Firefox out of preference cauz i am comfortable using it. IE is pretty good though :D

wait wait wait, IE good? Really? Come on man, lets not... It's got nothing on the Fox, extensions mang, Add-ons, it's just awesome.

Okay.. what would you guys recommend I use for all sorts of browsing? I do lots of media through my browser. (Pics, music, vids, etc)

Everyone and their mom claims Firefox > I.E. but, well, one time I ran an experiment to see what the hype was about. I installed Firefox and grabbed all available updates. I also made sure I.E. was fully updated. I went though my favorite porn sites with each browser. Under Firefox, I recieved a little under 10 counts of spyware. IE: none. Did I just fail to tweak some setting in Firefox? I'd love to switch to it, but so far I've not seen any real benefit.

This is not a post intended at starting a flame war, because in all likeliness, there is an explanation. I probably just failed to download some security pack or whatnot. Just lookin for advice. :)

Thanks!

Give it a spin, firefox's power lies within the extensions, security IMO should always be left to other anti-virus/spyware specialist softwares.

Thanks hypernova, though extensions aren't really what interest me. I'm looking for something thats not heavy at all, quick, low on resources, will play all media without a problem, and is safe and secure. :) Thanks again for any suggestions you might have. This has really been bugging me. Maybe it's just time for some good ol' trial and error.
