Faster shutter speed?

I recently purchased a Canon SD200. I've been playing around with it, trying to get used to the settings and what not. According to the specifications, it should be able to do 1/2000sec, but for some reason, I'm unable to get shutter speeds faster than 1/202sec.

I am trying to take pictures of water drops, and I'm getting pretty close but nothing faster than 1/202sec. I can manually set the shutter speeds from -2sec to 15sec.

How do I get faster shutter speeds??Thx in advance.

you may need to disable the flash. On slr's a flash usually limits the shutter to 1/250 or 1/500.

The other possibility is there just isnt enough light to pick 1/2000 and its not letting you for that reason, try outside on a very bright day or something.

It's most likely because of the flash if its on, the sync for flash is usually capped at a max of 1/200, on my 300D its 1/250th.
As for sport's mode, that won't do anything because you can't select anything manual in any of the pre-set modes, it will try to get as fast as possible with available light.
You are most likely going to run into light issues at faster than 1/250th, make sure you have LOTS of light, and if you can set it in full manual, go for around 1/600th and F6-8, will make for a nice picture if you have the light, and at F8+ your pictures will be much sharper.
Just play around with it, see what comes out and what doesn't, have fun with it! :D

How can I manually set the F mode??? Sometimes, my pictures are F2.8, some are F5.6 and such. BTW, the Canon SD200 doesnt have sports mode. Thx for all the input!

IIRC, the SD200 lacks Aperture Priority mode, so you are unable to change the aperture (which is what the f-numbers represent).

You'll probably need to use the flash to freeze motion of the water droplet.

Try this in a darkened room - the duration of the flash (which is between 1/60000 to 1/2000 of a sec) will freeze the motion, and the darkened room will prevent anything except the flash from illiminating the picture. Shutter duration doesn't matter for this if the room is dark enough because there shouldn't be enough light to show anything except what the flash lit.

BTW, leaf shutters don't have flash-sync issues like plane shutters in a SLR. They can sync at pretty much any speed; my CoolPix 995 can sync at 1/2000 even if it cuts 1.5 stops of return light from the flash.
