I saw this option in my bios and nvidia setup. Do I turn it on or off for better performance?

OFF, for God's sake OFF. If you leave it on you will get stuttering and freezing during gameplay. I know from experience.

Fast writes does not improve performance that much. Its very marginal at best, but turning it off makes the card a lot more stable especially when overclocking. I have not used fast writes in years.

how do I turn off fastwrites on the motherboard rather than the nvidia control panel? I have the Asus p4p800 se. Does this have the option to turn it off there? I know that on my abit VT7 board there was an option in the bios but I cant seem to find one on my current one. Do some motherboards just not have that option?

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember 'Fast Writes' is basically half of the AGP acceleration.

I have always left it enabled with no problems. Not so sure about stuttering, since I have never had stuttering I couldn't fix by controlling loading apps and monitoring crap.

From what i remember, Fast Writes bypasses the system memory and writes directly to the CPU.

i dont see how you can bypass the northbridge when everything runs through it.

I meant system memory - corrected myself there....
