I have a Sandisk Ultra II 4GB SDHC card for my Nikon D60. When I transfer my pictures using a Sandisk USB 2.0 card reader, I clocked it at about 17MB/s... which is faster than the card's rated speed of 15MB/s. Excellent!

What I'm curious about is the claims of 30MB/s with the new Sandisk Extreme SDHC cards. Has anyone tested one of these?

I want to get an 8GB card... and naturally I want the fastest card I can get for when I'm downloading pics to my computer. Do the 30MB/s cards ever get that fast? Or are they at least faster than 15MB/s ?

There should be a couple of memory card black friday deals out there. Best Buy, Staples and maybe Abes of Maine (off the top of my head)

I have the 16GB Sandisk Extreme III 30MB/Sec edition and yes, I can verify that transfer speeds are above 30MB/sec according to Windows Vista... But only when using this card reader. I have several other card readers in the house, including the internal one on my laptop, and those seem to average ~17-20MB/sec transfer speeds.

Unfortunately, the USB - Mini-USB cable that comes bundled with the card reader isn't of the best quality, causing the device to drop and reconnect often and randomly. Luckily the cable is a cheap part and easy to replace. Everything seems to work great now that I swapped it with the sync cable from my Blackberry. The stand is a little gimicky, but the magnet is surprisingly strong so everything stays together well.

Sweet! I have a similar card reader... the ImageMate all in one, with CompactFlash slots and a few others. I suspect it would give me similar speeds. It's already much faster than the built in card readers in laptops and other external card readers I've used.

Thanks for the info!
