ive searched the forums and checked out head fi etc. and the general response towards the HD555s is very positive. however the CNet review still troubles me; they gave them a somewhat low 7.7 score and im concerned if they are not good with music as they say. ive looked around and i cant find much about music performance from a critical level...im looking to buy headphones very shortly (perhaps as early as tonight; the egg has 'em on sale for $130) and i need a bit of input on them. also, the HD280 Pro seems to have alot of good commentary as well however ive seen alot of negative remarks about its construction, particularly the headband area which cracks after use supposedly. can anyone give a second opinion on them? id like some help if i can :)

not important, im open to either kind really.
edit: one thing that i insist on is that they have single sided cabling system. i cannot STAND the kind that have both; in fact my dad's Grados eventually shorted out and became useless due to the double cables getting tangled and there was nothing you could do to get them untangled. it would also be nice to have the removable/replaceable cabling system like sennheiser uses in case they are accidentally pulled on or what not.
 
i own the 120ohm version of the 555's and i like them. The only thing is that i would like a little deeper bass and more of it. Other than that there is nothing else bad i can really think of being a semi noob to headphones. Oh they are also extremely comfy :) .

BTW, I don't think headphone.com mentions Audio Technica (Japanese imports from Audio Cubes). The A500 is ~$120 shipped and most reviews put it ahead of the HD280.

I doubt you'll be making this purchase tonight.... ;)

already ordered HD555s off the 'egg for $130 sale price...should be here by monday.
