I can't afford an SSD, that is why I asked for a HDD recommendation..........
A Crucial C300 64gb SSD is about $100 which is the same price as any decent regular hard drive. Plus it just happens to be one of, if not the best SSD's on the market for the price.
Does anyone have any experience with the WD Caviar Black drives?
What about the Samsung Spinpoint ones?
I'm looking to buy a 500GB+ drive

I am in the market for similarly fast HDDs, but 6GB/s.
you should not rule out a drive because it supports SATA3, but you should also not exclude SATA2 drives simply because they arent SATA3, because there is no realistic difference.
What the hell are you talking about? For half that price you can get a 1TB HDD which not only be fast (for a HDD) but will leave you with plenty of room. And for $100 you can get some 2-3TB HDD if you really need a lot of space.
I have no idea what "decent" means to you but frankly your post makes you look like a troll or a blind SSD fanboy.
It has been said before, SSDs aren't for everyone, yet.
You don't even know what to recommend. Is it western digital, samsung, or hitachi? Make up your mind. You aren't sure about much are you?To the OP : Caviar Black/Blue or Spinpoints are great drives but the new Hitachi drives have the best platter density (afaik) so they are an even better option. I think the Hitachi 2TB series has (had?) a high failure rate but I'm not sure.
