I have some 1920x1080 videos (720p videos are fine)that when I try to fast forward or seek ahead, it freezes for a little bit (like 1-5 seconds) and then resumes. I was wondering how I can lower this time. Is it a hard drive thing? Processor power? codec?

specs: Q6600 @ 3.00GHz+, 4gb ram, ocz vertex, ultra high quality .wmv

thanks in advance

How are you playing said videos? File specs?

windows media player or winamp is what I use. file specs are 1920x1080, .wmv (or h.264, but both do it), 1gb+, 8000+ bit rate, 96kbps audio, no drm.

If it was me I would ditch both of those players for MPC-HC (only player worth your time) and stop using the FF/RR buttons. Instead, just click in the seek bar to where you want. IMO, FF/RR is a relic left over from the VCR days.
