Hello,

I recently just sold my 9800 XT in anticipation of the new video cards being released. In the meantime im using a Nvidia Geforce ti4200 128MB AGP 4X in the machine in my sig.

I made a new system.cfg file and used Open GL instead of D3D because it was too slow. I have been experiencing some weird texture annomilies , ex rainbow colored textures @ random , missing , flashing textures diffrent colors. These problems only seem to happen at random or in certain areas ( Other areas with same textures are fine.) and they happen in both Open GL and D3D.

Ive properly removed all references of the ATI card from my system ( File / Registry Wise ) and Driver Cleaned it. Im running the latest Forceware avaliable from Nvidia's site. Ive tried turing fastwrites on and off to no avail. I have the latest 1.1 patch installed. Every other game I run on the system runs and looks fine for extended periods of time. The card is running at stock speeds and has only been overclocked once for testing. If you have any ideas I would greatly appricate them. Also if you are running FarCry on an older video card let me know what your experiences have been. Thanks alot.

Try putting on some rubber soled shoes and shuffling around on the carpet. Then touch your geforce and the magic lightning will fix it.

- sry couldnt resist :(

i didnt know farcry even used open gl

sounds like a hardware problem with the card. you can hold off till you get a new one, right?

Hello,

I

I tried this and its even worse now! All the textures in my games have been replaced with asciipr0n ahhhhh!!!!

Seriously though Ive been playing UT2K4 for about 2 HRS and there are no signs of texture corruption or weird textures at all. 3D Mark and everything else works like a champ. I read somewheres that the 1.1 patch caused some visual problems on Nvidia cards. Mabye this is the way it was "meant to be played"
I think mabye FC dosent like my old mocheesemo Ti 4200. I can live with it until X800 XT and FX 6800U are out. Thanks for the replys anyhow guys.

Well UT2004 was designed to run OpenGL. Were talking about a game engine that has been around for awhile and has matured. Far Cry is a completley new engine and has some problems. Not to mention that they may not have intended that the game be rendered in Open GL at all. Or if they did it may have been an afterthought more than a solid point of development. Or it could be one of the many problems that the game has with Nvidia cards and drivers.

Far Cry does support OpenGL .. they suggest using it in the ReadMe if your having slow performance .. BUT .. they say there are ill effects .. like what you are describing ..

I run it in OpenGL and it runs fine .. nice and fast and looks good .. I do get the occasional missing textures and whatnot .. but that's the game .. not your card ..

Far Cry was half baked before it left the oven! No support to boot.

Anyway to the problem, yes it is suppose to support OGL, problem is getting thre, you have to manual change the config.
Go to Ubisofts support forum, you'll find out how to do it there.

Even though the game works fine on my machine,
I wish I didn't have to pay to beta test games for some of these devolopers.
