Far Cry - where's my weapon?

I'm on the level after the battleship. I've reached the top of the mountain with helicopters approaching. I pressed "J" to drop my current weapon and picked up the rocket launcher. Now I can't see my weapon unless I press the right mouse button to use the sight. I even tried going back to the previous save and it's the same way. This is annoying. What did I do, and how do I fix this? Thanks.

I'm having a couple of other issues. I had to quit playing and shut my computer off for a while. When I turned it back on, the gameplay is back to normal. But I had to make several attempts at loading the game. It would start loading ,shut down, and go back to the desktop. Any ideas why? I also noticed that the shadow and underwater affects don't look as good. I have the video options set to high. Do I need to turn them down? My system uses an Athlon 64 3200, nVidia 6800 GT, 1 GB Corsair 3200 XMS Pro. Thanks.

hmmmm...try reinstalling the game....update all drivers.......

Will I lose my progress if I reinstall? Sorry for the question, but I'm a PC gaming noob.

If you find the directory where your saves are located you can back it up to another location then drop it back in.

Before you re-install the game, I'd look closer at your graphics card.

What brand is it? And are you overclocking it?
Do the errors happen in any other games?

Is it patched to v1.1? When I first installed it on "Fire" (see below) it was completely white, couldn't see anything. Then I patched it and it was okay.

Thanks, Paintballa XX.

My video card is an evga 6800 GT, and it is not overclocked. I haven't noticed any issues with other games, but I've mostly been playing Far Cry. I have not downloaded any updates since installing the game. I'll make sure to patch it to v1.1 and see if that solves my problems. Thanks.

Like the others have stated: Be sure to install the v1.1 patch. Major bugs in the original release of Far Cry without the patch. The v1.3 patch is supposed to be released soon. Keep an eye out for it - expecially with you running a 6800 series card.
