Far Cry movie will probably suck

It's unfortunate that someone decided that Uwe Boll, the director of the House of the Dead will also be directing the Far Cry movie. House of the Dead was so abysmal that I can't believe he is still allowed to direct anything more then commercials. This is a sad turn of events for a movie that I hoped might break free of the stereotype that movies based on games suck.

I think PA sums it up great in this strip: http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2002-12-18&res=l

Well there is always hope for the Doom movie.

I can't help but agree with you all around. While I want to see a good Far Cry movie.. the House of the Dead movie was so terrible I wanted to kill myself as I watched it.

Far Cry movie is toast before it starts.

Maybe it will be so bad it will be fun to watch... you know like those really bad movies on Sci-Fi that are so cheesy you just can't turn them off. :D

Yes! I love the cheese they play on Sci-Fi, killer flys!... or Mosquitoes.. I dont know, but it was like a group of people stuck in this house fighting off the largest rubber insects I've ever seen! :D

Video games don't make great movies. Can you say House of the Dead?? Tomb Raider??

Resident Evil was decent and the second is on movies now in Sweden. movies based on games are quite a new phenomena so to early to judge really. I would like a System Shock movie then they would at least have a story to build on :)

I didnt say RE because I actually liked the movie and the new one is pretty good also. :)

the new one has some good action scenes but the acting is pretty bad. its pretty cool to see some of your favorite games in the movies. :D

Sienna Guillory is [H]otness Supreme. The movie was worth it just to see her running around killing zombies.

At that rate, the only way it could be any good is if Mike, Servo, and Crow are silhouetted on the foreground.

Given Hollywood's handling of movies based on games and such, I am inclined to agree. No director of real substance picks up these projects. They get handed to some 3rd rate director of special effects popcorn poppers.

It seems to be that way. John Woo is directing the Rainbow Six movie. I'm not saying that Woo is a bad director, but NOT the man for the job for Rainbow six. I read the book twice and it's not John Woo material. Hopefully he won't cheapen the movie by adding in gratuitous fight sequences.

John Woo has never failed so far I mean Face Off, Broken Arrow, MI 2, do I need to say more.

But in my opinion, I feel that those movies were just excuses to blow stuff up. The storyline in most of those were pretty weak at best. They were just mindless action. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think you need movies like that every now and then. It's just that I think some people will be expecting more than that out of a rainbow six movie.

omg, have you seen the killer or hard boiled. Both of wich had great storys and great acting, plus incredible fight scenes. I love john woo movies (well except paycheck, that was just horrible) He truely knows how to coriagraph fight scenes. But I do agree that for a rainbow six movie his style of gun play just does not fit. None the less I think that the rainbow six movie will be great, already has a great story and now has a great action director. And all I have to say is how can you not like tom clancy movies (excluding sum of all fears).

JEEVES

ps, I am hoping that there will be a warhammer 40k movie sometime soon, mabey dow will open this window.

Exactly Bane, Tom Clancy is a much more cerebral story. And I loved the slow paced intense moments of the novel. R6 is NOT non-stop action blockbuster. It's a very intense thriller. Woo isn't a bad director, but I don't think this is his kind of film.

Michael Bay (the rock, bad boys) would probably make a decent director for a Rainbow 6 movie. He is a little less about the action and a little more about the suspense then John Woo. I really think he could pull it off.

On a second Tom Clancy note, is there any news on whether or not they will be making a Splinter Cell movie? I hope they do and I hope that if they do Michael Ironside plays Sam Fisher.

Wouldn't he be a little too old to play Sam Fisher's character?

But then Rainbow 6 the book is all about action too. You don´t get to know characters very deeply it´s all about the action there too so in that sense John Woo would be perfect.

But I think you underestimate John Woos movies they aren´t really that shallow he is a great story teller too :)

LOL BAKER! That movie rules! The bad guys steal a winnebago and the all pile in ... they use chainsaws on mosquitoes and stuff... so good lol.

I don't think so. Sam Fisher is supposed to be an older more experienced agent so it wouldnt be right for them to get someone young to play the part. Also, Ironside is a good actor and he already is the voice of Sam Fisher in the games so why not have him play Fisher in a movie?

hehe, had a buy one get one movie rental yesterday and decided to blow it on house of the dead just for kicks.....man shoulda just rented some porn, at least my girlfriend would of bitched less....sigh :(

when i see this thread topic, all i think is a big flashing neon that says 'no shit'.

i think the movie will be a terrible b rate movie. which translates into a wonderful movie to laugh at.

You obviously haven't seen House of the Dead yet. There are cheezy B rate movies that I can watch over and over again, but HotD is more like a really bad knockoff of a B rate movie and is totally unwatchable. And since its the same director and we have established that he couldn't direct himself out of a cardboard box, there is little hope this movie will be better then HotD.

Old John Woo I love but his newer stuff suffers from too many miserably preposterous moments.

Imagine a James Cameron Far Cry or Doom movie ... sigh ..

/wakes up.

Hell yeah, just look at Aliens. Still a classic. Of course it is a reverse case.

I didn't know he did the voice. That's pretty cool.

i think if the actor who played Ivan Drago from rocky IV was still young he would make a great doom guy

"I must break you." :D

Ridley Scott directed Alien. Cameron did Terminator 1 & 2 though.

I suggest John McTiernan. Director of Predator, Hunt for Red October, the first Die Hard and Die Hard WIth a Vengeance. Pretty impressive resume if you ask me :D

RVE the first movie is named Alien the second Aliens ;). Cameron did indead direct Aliens. Still Ridley Scott did a better job with the first but they are damn masterpieces both.

Well think of it this way atleast they did not get Tom Hanks to do.
He could not Director his way out of a nut sack, hell he could not act his way out either.

rofl, i saw this movie where the main alien was a giant beach ball that was spraypainted silver (you could see the crease mark where the differant colors join up  ), it had painted on eyes and paper feet. The movie was so pathetic but it was funny as hell. Everyones running around this space ship screaming cause theres this giant beach ball jumping everwhere killing stuff. :D
oh the joys of old skool sci-fi films

Not the first one, the second one. Where the space marines are introduced. That's Cameron
