Hi fellas its me again. I gave up and bought Far Cry off of someone, for price of 10$... :D
what can i say, the kid got bored with the game. Everyone was right with this thread.
the 1.3 patch solved all my problems. yet, i still have two questions that i feel can only be answered in the video card threads.

the HDR and the Ps 3.0..
i've browsed the web, and its hardly anywhere. the only thing i found out is that ps 3.0 comes naturally but how can i tell.
my specs are in my sig, and i am using 66.93 WHQL.

thanks for all the help, i will post pics of the game and performance, for anyone with reference to my card.

\r_hdrrendering x
x= 1-11
7 is said to be best quality

i found this out on another forum. off to see how it works

SM 3.0 and HDR are un-related

SM 3.0 will be enabled as long as you have the Lighting Quality set on Very High under the advanced video settings in the game.

HDR you have to manually enable via the console if you want to use it.

ok thanks for the thread. it says not aliasing but i put that on.. i still got the HDR, at least i think i did, i will post the screens either way and try it again in a moment.

The second one was to check if i had ps 3.0
It looks just like the one that talks about ps 3.0 so
i guess its on.

You won't see a visual difference with SM 3.0 enabled versus SM 2.0, only a speed improvement in some situations.

With HDR you will not be able to use Anti-Aliasing.

it doesnt look like you have hdr enabled this is what mine looks like enabled at full settings

HDR is not enabled in those screens, try again without AA, or follow the directions in the above thread. Very easy to tell if its on by starting the first level and looking up, and seeing if it looks like the first set of pics on the nvnews thread.

Wtf right?

got scared and found out that found out that the startup config overrides everything i put ingame and put AAX2. anyways, i figured out the prob and voylaa

With my 6600GT i am getting 80 inside and about 45-50 outside..:p i forgot the command so i am guessing

either way, all looks well. thanks for help people. I am enjoying the game so far, the only downfall to it is, b4 i slice the guys throat he yells "screw you pal" or "I'm gonna getya now" what can u expect from mercs?

I was wondering how you tell your how many fps youre getting in farcry.... anyone know?

open the console and type "\r_displayinfo 1" without the quotes...

playable HDR on a 6600 gt? that's crazy... i can barely do it on my 6800gt...

okat its 42 constant outside of first level and inside 55..
my settings are all on very high.
i don't really see anything nice about HDR except the pool effect...
when u look outside its too bright, like a fantasy world or something

It's too bright at first; stare longer and it fades to natural levels, mimicking the eyes' adjusting to the glare.

No, though I don't know the technical reasons. Either way, enabling HDR in Far Cry gives a similar performance hit to enabling 8xSAA i.e. it shafts the frame rates completely. You'd have a job running any sort of aa alongside HDR at comfortable frame rates with today's hardware

As long as you keep the res between 1024x768 and 1280x1024 it runs fine.

And don't enable any 8xAF.

Also, another great addition to patch 1.3, open console and type "\e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio 100"

It will make it so that ALL vegetation, no matter how far away, is rendered in 3D and moves just like normal (i.e. sways in the wind.) It still runs smooth because with patch 1.3 and 6X00 series, "geometry instancing" is enabled by default.

It is amazing to use your binoculars and look at trees on another island and watch them move in the wind. WOW

With 8xAF, HDR, e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio 100, @1280x1024 with my rig, it is BARELY playable in many situations. When i take off HDR, or everything else except HDR, it runs great. But all those IQ tweaks combined = slowdown.

So run at 1024x768 or use r_hdrrendering 2

man i dont know how your running it at 1280x1024 with hdr and everything on very high gets me playable fps with my 6800gt. the hdr makes it look so much better IMO but i had to turn it off when i got to the archives to save the girl, it went crazy.

1280x1024 with HDR, Far Cry is totally playable on the system in my sig.

HDR, so beautiful, why doesnt HL2 support this again? Oh yeah, the stutter bug...duh.

i dunno if the source engine supports it (which again i'm guessing, is needed to have the effect)

I can't, I have an LCd, native res 1280x1024.

Lowering it to r_hdrrendering 2 or any other number doesn't improve fps much, if at all.

Ditto, but not playable @ 1280x1024 with 8xAF AND HDR AND \e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio 100.

Anybody tried HDR with SLI? Noticed any improvements? I read about how HDR killed your frame rate when it first came out, but haven't heard anything about it since SLI hit the market.

Good point. I'd be interested to hear the results of this also. 1600x1200 with 60fps average and r_HDRRendering 7 would be lovely to look at.
