Far Cry getting raped

Booting up Far Cry to see how it would look on my 6800GT and noticed something wierd. When it did auto-detect, it set every setting to low and the resolution to 1024x758. I set everything to a level more normal for the card and booted it up. Everything seemed fine. I went to play around in the airpot level on a LAN and this is what I saw

Half the stuff in the game was like that. I exited at my temps were perfectly fine. Anybody know what the problem is?

Get the latest patch for FC first....Then get the latest version of Direct X...Lastly install the newest Forceware drivers for your card...Post back...Let me know whether that worked or not...

I had the newest 71 series drivers and I wasn't comfortable with the heat increase they made. Also, I would prefer to solve this without patching. The newest patch reduces the power of the p90 in single player as well, which is pretty much the only thing I use. I'll try it anyway though.

Reinstalled DirectX 9C. It worked on the auto-detect settings (low) but as soon as I flipped it to very high, corruption ran rampant on the scopes and light colored objects.

I was having that problem before and it was the video card, I rma the card and now I can play farcry very nice

I just read something about there being texture "anamolies" when lighting quality is set to high. It said the problem was for ATI cards with certain catalyst versions, but I'm going to try it anyway

EDIT: Didn't work. It's obviously something in the settings that's screwing it up, but as Far Cry needs to reboot after you change something, this is going to take forever to isolate it.

I had that same problem when I first started playing, it went away when I patched FarCry to 1.31.

I'd recommend going back to official drivers. 66.93

Also the patch is required for it to look right.

Could be overclock also.

It's the patch, the original version simply does not support the NV40 (It was in one of the change logs IIRC).

I had to do the same with my FarCry once I got my 6800GT.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard - let's not take advantage of SM3.0 - geez  I think you need to research it - you WANT the patch for christ sakes!

um, yeah... far cry 1.0 is buggy as crap on any 6x00 series card...

I was thinking something different, you don't want to take advantage of the fixes for nvidia specific issues, such as this. SM3 would be the last thing I want if i'm having problems just running the game.

You don't have to enable HDR if you install the 1.3/1.3.1 patches. And SM3 isn't even possible if you don't install DX9.0C. LOL

I kind of agree with the guy you quoted.

SM3.0 doesn't look that much different in the shots I've seen. I immediatly patched it once I found out about HDR through

The original version of the game does not detect NV40 class cards. It is also buggy on NV40 class cards. Patch 1.1 recognized NV30 class cards but introduced horrible shader banding.

For NV40 class cards you need patch 1.3 installed to run the game without graphical bugs and to detect the class correctly, it also fixed the shader banding bug introduced in patch 1.1.

And that's just the way it is, like it or not.
