Has anyone here ran Far Cry on a 9600XT at 1600x1200? If so, how well does it run? I've searched to see a review of a 9600xt with far cry, but didnt find anything :(

I seriously doubt it. Especially with your CPU. Perhaps you can find a review, or download the demo and find out. Keep in mine, it will be a little faster with the retail version and the 1.3 patch, because of the PS2.0b.

Fantasy:
Far Cry + 9600XT + 1600x1200 = 146.987 frames/second

to be honest:

Far Cry + 9600XT + 1600x1200 = 10.0001 fps

Lower it down to 1024x768 and you have a much better playing field or upgrade your card ;)

It wont stand a chance. Sorry. :(

My old 9700 Pro didnt even run 1600x1200 in Farcry at near acceptable.

^^^^ And that is a 8 pipe card, 9600XT is only 4, so I think that is a fantacy :)

How can you game at those high resolutions? I'm addicted to 800 by 600 & 640 by 480, but i guess thats because my first gaming card was a 3dfx voodoo 3000 :-/(sucks with cs, 15 avg FPS)

Only the X800 series has support for PS2.0b, 9600XT is a regular PS2.0 part.
The 1.3 patch may enable geometry instancing though, because 9600XT does support that, but I doubt it'd improve performance much, especially in very high resolutions.

I ran CS:S and Farcry on a 9600xt at 1600x1200 without a problem. Average fps was 30-40+ on medium-high quality. Although, that was on a watercooled 2.8e.
I'll be upgrading to either a x800 PRO ViVo or BFG 6800 GT OC shortly so that I can remain at 1600x1200, full AA and have 60+ fps.
Playing WOW I ran at full quality and full AA at 1600x1200 with average fps of 15-40, it was getting rough which is why I'm doing a bit of upgrading.

The 9600xt is a nice card, don't get me wrong. Its fast because of the ultra high core and memory settings, but there's just not enough bandwidth to support the high resoultion gaming people want to run. I guess bottem line is, if you don't run high resolution, the 9600xt will produce more then decent fps on high quality.

thanks for the replies...i was just gauging to see if i should buy a new vid card when i upgrade my computer. I'm either getting a P4 3.0ghz w/ IC7, or a P4 530 w/ AA8...

the thing is, I just bought this card in November for 99 bux...I would like to use it as much as possible or i'd just upgrade to a PCI-Express card... :( :)

My 9600xt can run farcry at 16x12, and its wonderful to look at with textures etc turned up. However, I usually dont play at that. Depending on level, I will play at 10x7 or 12x9. Framerate in farcry really varies quite a bit depending on where you are, esp. at higher resolutions.
