Friday 07.23.2004 Far Cry 1.2 patch withdrawn

Ubisoft has taken the decision to withdraw this patch due to issues experienced by a number of users. An official statement follows:
"Far Cry patch 1.2 has shown unexpected behaviour on specific hardware configurations. These matters are mainly due to incompatibilities with several optimisations brought lately to the code, with the intent to please a large number of users.

We’re currently asking CRYTEK to work on delivering a new patch as soon as possible. Until then we have decided to remove the patch 1.2 from the official UbiSoft websites."

Well gee, it works for Nvidia users, so let them have it.
Guess they can't play favorites.

im glad i downloaded it last night 8) now if my BFG ultra would only get delivered 8(

Boo, recalled due to ATI video cards, wow what a surprise. They should atleast leave it up for nvidia users ( not me ) who still want to download it and are not having issues.

Yeh heh they should leave it up with a disclaimer that it only works right on Nvidia cards hehe.

Its because when You change x800 ID to 6800 You get any where from 10% - 40% Performance boost. Nvidia didn't pay crytek to optimize ATI stuff they paid them to have NV stuff run faster then ATI.

Oh if its not working for ATI, It means that hell of a lot of optimizations must have been done for nvidia cards to break ATI and its strict DX compliancy

I can understand that, but people talk like its ATI's fault, when it really is Cryteks fault releasing the patch, now they have to fix it.

lol conspiracy theory

Go look at the farcry forums, you will see the x800/9800 users all having texture flickering/lockups etc...

P.S. -- Nvidia has strict DX compliancy to a more advanced shader model than ATI :)

roffels

works so well with ati they had to pull the patch

"omg, look, we can use sm3.0 shaders! so what if there are no textures, we dont need them!1oneone!!!1"

I have no Problems running any OpenGL games at all. Hell my CAD stuff which runs in OpenGL runs fantastic on ATI cards. I can't say the same for my quadro cards.. Especialy FX line that have HORRIBLE memory leaks in their Opengl implementation.

So which Nvidia card is your favorite?

Quadro 4 750 (9XX is good too). The only Stable Nvidia card. I don't play many games I use CAD mostly. I love my ATI FireGL cards, good IQ and no Memory leaks, stable and no weird Font corruption which is rampant on FX quadro line. I have a quadro 3000 that can't play games at all (it is a 5800 after all) and it renders like shiet because all the textures are washed out and on top of that its loud as hell. If your saying Nvidia has awsome OpenGL drivers then Quadro's should just do awsome in any OpenGL game, I wish this was true.

There's always one of these...Heh

So what are your favorite 5 things that you think Nvidia cards do better than ATI cards in general?

Hmm.. that's weird, I am an autocad trainer and have been for years, even worked directly through autodesk, never heard of any of these problems that you are referring to, actually matrox have been my favorite for cad, but never a problem for any ati or nvidia. Did you call tech support?

And the last time I checked the X800 line sucks because ATi didn't bother to write a decent OpenGL driver...so what?

Ignorance at its greatest.

It seems everyone has forgotten the many Farcry bugs that were there for FX users with the 1.1 patch, eh? They were not there with the retail version, but patched in (with a speed increase mind you). This is no different. Crytek is at fault, they are supposed to ensure the game works properly. The game worked fine retail, and after the first patch.

If you are nieve enough to think NV users dont have any problems with the 1.2 patch, well, then thats your problem.

This is just another reason Im glad Brent didnt use the 1.2 patch to do his recent reviews.

If you look at the FarCry forums, 99% of the users having problems are ATI users.

That being said, maybe some of the stuff they introduced to speed up SM2.0 on ATI cards is the cause of that problem.

I know about the ATi crashing problem. There is also A LOT of posts from NV users at nvnews with the 1.2 patch. I know you've read them as much as you like to link the website. Saying the "X800 line sucks" is just, well.. I think anyone with a logical thinking mind can determine what that statement is.

The fact remains that Crytek screwed up. They obviously didnt test the patch well enough, if they had, this would have been avoided.

Quadro 4 Line of cards are by far the best out of any pro cad vid cards.

I like Nvidia marketing I went to fragapalooza they bought Pizza for over 800 people gave away free shit. Nvidia sponsorships kick ass. I have no favorites I know what works and what doesn't. I work with a program that costs 11k I don't give a flying rats over whats better at quake 3, I choose what works. All I can say is that the last line of quadro cards sucked dick.

Best Cards.
Quadro 4 XGL series
FireGL Z1
FireGL X1
Fire GL X2

I have a 9800 pro in my home machine I bought it way back, I don't see why I should upgrade to ATI x800 or NV 6800.

The only upgrade that looks tempting to me is the New Wildcat series.

The funny thing is that Crytek delayed release of the patch to insure compatibilty! lol

If you barely play games, keep your 9800pro, it will last a few more years.

You guys don't understand the problem with Ubisoft.

If you're unfortunate enough to have them as a producer, ALL your patches have to go through their code inspection team which means it gets screwed with for a month. Ubisoft fumbled the code and is making Crytek fix their mess.

Haven't seen any Nvidia problems at NVNEWS that weren't fixed with a reinstall.

some people around here need a vacation till they get their x800 bashing out of their system.

reminds me of the guy in the yugo complaining about mercedes anyway.

Where did you get that from? The specific inclusions you are talking about aren't even enabled by default so how is that the cause of the problem? Also those additions shouldn't affect the r3xx series, but they are still having issues. It just looks like there was a gross deficit of QA with respect to the r3xx and r420 series with the new patch and for a game that's so popular its kinda ridiculous.

read the ubi forums before you make whacked out pull it out your ass statements.

heres one post...

there are many...

just got my BFG 6800GT and the 1.2 patch at the same time. I never tested with 1.1 but FC makes my card his 110c and then locks up or crashes. Every other game runner max 85-90c, per BFG normal. But check your GPU temps.
