I recently saw a review on the new Fanless Gigabyte 6600GT
im wondering if there are any other fanless 6600GTs being made?
does Zalman have a solution like they did on the 9700s?

i would get the Gigabyte but i cant find it for sale anywhere...maybe in a few weeks

thats the one i saw
dont remember where the review was if i find it ill edit and post it

does the newest zalman passive VGA cooler (last letter is D) work on the 6600GT series?

im anal about noise as my computer lives 2 feet from my bed
i modded my radeon to be passive (P4 heatsink and some epoxy :D )
cpu has the HUGE sunflower zlaman ALCU
psu has a vantec stealth (essentially silent)
all i need now is to silence my numerous hard drives. (im thinking metal project boxes with foam padding but sinked to the case to disipate heat)

silence is golden

hehe I bet the damn thing doesn't even give you so much respect as a "reach around" huh?

anyways quiet is allways good

thats my next upgrade
you have heard of blower fans
well....

im just gonna stop right there

so anyone know where i might be able to buy one of these cards in canada?

I e-mailed Gigabyte weeks ago about the availability of this card in North America but have yet to receive a response.

ive got an order pending for the card
im waiting to find out if the order will cross the boarder into Canada and if it will be subject to duty fees

if it isnt subject to fees ill get it
if it is then probably not cuz it will be like $500 to get it across the boarder
man NAFTA sucks wasent it supposed to be "FREE trade" ?

arctic cooling has a vga silencer out for the 6600gt series cards, but i cant find them in stock anywhere. they should be released soon if anyone is interested. i would like to try it thats for sure.

i wouldent have a fanless 6600gt for the life of me...
i have a buddy who had a Zalman HP80A heatsink on his card (much bigger than the heatsink on that gigabyte card) and he forgot to put a fan on it and fried it within 3 minutes from the time he went into the first game he played..

So your buddy did a mod to a card and didn't slowly check out the temps across a few simple tests? Seems like putting a new radiator in a card and heading out to the track w/o testing it.

You are comparing a moron who voided his warranty to a company that spent R&D on giving the public a silent solution?

so what your saying is "he did it wrong"

well for one the -A model of that cooler is old and not rated for 6600 level cards
you have to use the D model with 2 heatpipes and copper heatsink rather then Aluminum
though i cant find the proper information from zalman to find out if the D model will fit the 6600GT of any card maker cuz this is another option ive looked at

ive got a couple emails out to various retailer and manufactueres so far i havent gotten any responces ill update if i hear anything

Got my gigabyte card and built my new rig. It idles at 53ºC in an Antec Sonata case with with the single 120mm exhaust fan at low speed. Pretty good ot me.

53 is on the warm side.. but acceptable. Nice to know.

Of course, you're not completely fanless... though a low speed 120mm is pretty quiet (how low speed?).

I guess if it really, really matters, you just water cool it all (well.. still have to deal with the PSU.. I think?). I think a gentle hum can be quite relaxing though... I mean your air conditioner or heater is likely to be lounder... right?
