Hey guys, im not new here at all, im just a passive user of this amazing forum.
I just had 1 question on my mind:

Why are Amd and Nvidia so harsh against each other, and defend their ''camp'' with true or false statement just to try to win the argument which are non arguments most of the times anyway.
Sometimes on any forum its really just mindblowing what im seeing there:O, cant we just live in peace and hope for as many new and fast graphics cards as possible so they have to invent something newer, faster again and try to win costumers by lowering the price even more.

Proud owner of a Ati radeon 9800 pro, nvidia 7800GTX, ATI 4870, Nvidia gtx 570 SLI, amd 7970GHZ, and soon a fuji OR a 980 TI, depends on, noise performance, performance and price.

No different from people getting into fights over their home team. Emotional attachment (for whatever reason) leads to irrational decisions and thought processes.

Aside from compensated shills, I'll go with human nature also. Everyone thinks they are right and will adapt data to their own ends.

Though I have noticed a particular difference, some people will promote a product, while others will attack a product . And some will do both for good measure.

Interesting this human nature.

That makes sense to me as there are other humans involved which helps evoke the ol' feelings of tribalism, but over computer hardware? I find that stupid in the extreme.

Shills, a lot of hearsay, and aversion to a brand based on past experience, but real fanboys are hard to find here. There are a lot of logical people on [H] even if they go off the rails sometimes.

I used to think they are like sports fans, but sports fan at least have criticisms or admit that their favorite teams or athletes have some faults and weaknesses. On the other hand, these GPU or CPU fanboys seem oblivious to any missteps or faults their favorite companies or cards have. IMO it's more cult like zealotry.

Just a few people can make a lot of noise.
Then again, there are a lot of truths to be known!
Most of us will get the card that suits our needs best.

But why only video cards and processors. AMD/Nvidia and AMD/Intel seem to be the only thing people fight about.

Why not fight over monitors, psu's, memory, motherboards? Come on you slackers, lets fight!!!

My G.Skill memory owns you.

I think the label itself is idiotic. People criticizing a company based on facts are not fanboys. AMD has had a rocky few years and I think it is ok to shit on them unless they prove themselves otherwise.

Doesn't make anyone for saying that a fanboy. Similar was the case with nvidia and fx5800 and people kept taking a dump on nvidia for next 2 generations.

I will pay money to whichever brand satisfies my needs. Currently it is nvidia.

Fanboys are stupid. I have a nice AMD system that runs everything I can throw at it. One of my nephews is building an Intel / Nvidia system when Win 10 comes out. A third family member is intrigued with the AMD Zen platform, but he likes Nvidia GPUs, and I have another person that can't make his mind up on Intel/ AMD / Nvidia.

All of them pester me all day which is better because they read a post saying Brand X is better than Brand Z. All I ask them is what are you going to use it for, what is your resolution, and budget. Everything works darn near equally as long as you stay away from SLi / CrossfireX. Yes, I have a family member wanting to do that still...

Yeah, I never understood people who viciously defend, and attack others. Sport teams, cars, motorcycles, shoes, graphics cards ...

GPU and CPU are the powerhouses in a PC, everything else is just glitter and sparkles. :D

All of the other components are basically commodities.

The GPUs and CPUs run the show.

Well there are more fulfilling ways of filling that void, if you catch my drift. ;)

Its the way of the world. Same reason we have wars. Our country beleives this, if your not with us, your against us. Been happening since the caveman, when he found out his caveman neighbor banged his wife. LOL

If we didn't fight, what the hell else we gonna do? BOOOOOORRRRRRIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNG! Just ask any Canadian, its probably why they are crazy about hockey? Nobody to fight.. LOL

It's called competition.
Nvidia and AMD would make LESS money if they did not fuel the fires for the little pimple faced fanbois.
Take OSU and Michigan college football:
Both teams are amazing, both teams have had the greatest football coaches ever.(Schembechler, Meyer) Both teams make more money by enticing a rivalry till it bleeds.

The same is true with NVidia and AMD.

I'll never understand it.
Some people are so over-the-top I'm convinced they are trolling.

In particular the amount of people who have a deep hatred of AMD and seem to want them to outright fail, is astonishing. I get that you had an ATI DLL BSOD back in 2008 but can we please look at the big picture?

No!

:p

Yeah, that is pretty retarded. I prefer NV at the current time, but I'd love to see AMD pick back up with something relevant and competitive on both the GPU and CPU side. I'm someone that has multiple PCs in the house at any given time, so there's plenty of room for a variety of hardware. I've always had curiosity for what else is out there. I used to buy Power VR cards, Matrox cards, Voodoo cards, bought the Rivas and TNTs, 9700s, X800s, Geforce XXXXXXes, etc. Why not? It's fun. I'd really hate to see AMD fall off the world. I've only got a tiny bit of their hardware in the house right now, but wouldn't mind seeing more of it again at some point, even if my main gaming system is still Intelvidia for the foreseeable future.

Because some people are crazy. They seemingly operate under the assumption that if they defend a brand hard enough the executive board will shower them in gifts and oral sex for being such a wonderful keyboard warrior.

Notice anything in common between those two groups?

I spat my drink seeing you posting in this thread! Your cognitive bias is so rampant you're now even willing to imply AMD is somehow responsible for fanboyism! If you didn't believe you own BS you'd be pretty amusing.

On-topic I can understand people having a positive or negative feeling associated with a product depending on their personal experiences, that seems fairly rational. What I can't understand is people with an emotional attachment to a brand so strong the feel like they are sharing in the success of something they had basically nothing to do with, and feel the need to defend/rationalize that brands every misstep or shortcoming.

I feel if you truly dislike a brand, let's say AMD like the example above, then why would you spend a truly massive amount of your time trying to discredit that brand? Just enjoy the product you do like and be done with it. That's when it transitions from preference to pathetic in my opinion.

I like value. I've always found a sweetspot of $300-400 (canadian) where past that the % cost increases significantly while the % speed is much smaller increase. My current card is AMD, but I'm waiting for their new stuff to come out, and see what it does to prices on the rest. I might get a rebranded or a 290x or a 970 or whatever seems the best value in that budget. Product loyalty is only good if you're consistently getting good value and quality.
