I have an Antec Super Lanboy case. It comes with two 120mm fans pre-installed. Each fan has 2 thin wires, one black and one red. The black wire feeds into one of the black wires on a standard 4-pin power connector. The red wire feeds into the yellow wire of a standard 4-pin power connector.
My mobo is a DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D. This mobo has 5 smallish 3-pin fan connectors. Obviously, the big standard power connectors coming from the case fans will not fit into the mobo fan connectors. What do I do?
 
U gotta connect them to ur power supply. If there are only 2 wires that means there is no RPM sensor so it doesnt really matter if u connect it to ur mobo, ur mobo wont know its there. I have that case too and my front fan has a 3 pin connector that i connect directly to my motherboard. The other one i dont have anymore but just connect it to your PSU.
 
yes, you connect the fans directly to 4-pin connectos on the powersupply.

i really wouldn't reccomend connecting them to the motherboard, even if you could, because they probably draw more current than the motherboard is rated to supply.

It wont hurt to connect them to the motherboard. As long as they aren't high powered fans like a Vantec Tornado then the motherboard will be able to handle them just fine. Normal fans dont draw very much power. A Tornado on the other hand could blow the header on the mobo if you try to power it through it.
 
well, i just got out a "blah" evercool silver painted 80 mm fan, and a generic black antec 120 mm fan.

the 120 mm specs at 0.52 amps draw, and the 80 mm specs at 0.11 amps. if the mobo can take it, that's just great.

just looking at the difference in draw, i assumed that connecting a 120 mm fan to the mobo header would be pushing it.

I'm not sure how much a motherboard header can handle so i can't say for sure but i doubt any regular 120mm fan could blow a header.

The 92mm Vantec Tornado specs at 1A and i dont think thats the startup draw.
 
i know what the tornado and the delta FFB0912EHE spec at(1.0A and 1.5A respectively).

as i said, i just looked at what a pretty plain 120mm fan draws and consluded that since it was several times what a standard 80mm case fan draws that attaching it to a fan header intended for a 60 or 80mm fan was not advisable.

not trying to be a real jerk about it, just wondering if you knew more about the subject of safe load on a mobo fan header than i do.
 
OK. I am plugging my fans into the PSU. However, my PSU does not have fan specific ports. It does have a specific port labeled VGA/HDD. And a specific port for SATA. The other 4 ports are labeled Con1 and Con2 and Con1 and Con2. Can the fans plug into any of the ConX ports? There are a total of six ports on the PSU (counting the SATA and VGA/HDD ports and more counting the cables that plug directly into the mobo). And the cables supplied with the PSU have multiple (molex?) connectors. I just was not sure if all the ports output the same amount of power. My PSU is the SurePower 500W Smart Cable PS from Mad Dog.
I also seem to remember reading somewhere that some video cards require a direct connection to the PSU. I do not see any connectors on my XFX GeForce 6600GT. Am I missing it?

all of those 4-pin molex connectors are fully equivalent. use whatever one is convient.

i don't own one of these, so i can't say first hand.

the only thing that i will say regarding what you connect where, is that you should have your fans and disk drives on a different string of connectors from you graphics card. preferably, fans on one, drives on a second, and graphics on a third.
 
Not sure whether it matters, but my card is PCIe rather than AGP? I am plugging it in to a DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D.
