Fan Wiring to Fan Controller

I dont have any spare fans around and my case fans dont reach up to my fan controller, and what is a fan bus or a bay bus? Anyways, what kind of wires can I use to extend my case fans to my fan controller? I'm just thinking about wrapping the wire to the pins on the fan controller and just put some electrical tape over it. Do you think this would work? I'm not even gonna use the plastic part that inserts into the 3 pins, because I dont have any of those laying around. Thanks in advance.

good question.. I haven't put everything together yet but i'm using a very large case so my fan wire might be too short as well

I'm guessing any type of thin wire would work... if needed I'm prolly going to cut the connector off, extend the wire, and patch everything up with electrical tape

most computer voltage wires are 22AWG. if you have a couple bucks get some extentions they will keep your system out of "the Getto" . if not go to home depot or radio shack and get some butt connectors. they will be fine

Cyber..thats exactly what I need, but I'm not that patient. I've read around and people used speaker wires to extend their fans. All I got is the big copper wires and their are many wires. Would I just cut off 1 wire and wrap it around the fan wire and than wrap it around the 3 pin? Their explainations weren't all that good. Since i wont be needing the RPM pin, i wont use a wire for that. You guys think this would work? Just dont want to wait for it to ship to me, also gotta save money for spring break trip to florida, florida ladies here i come! Thanks in advance.

Anybody with any idea with this mod?

Also, on the fans, which of the 3 wire does what? I'm not sure if the yellow controls or monitors the speed and if i will be needing the yellow when putting it on my fan controller?

Yep, the yellow wire is (usually) the RPM sensor wire. You want that to be separate from the +12v/ground wires, and have it plugged into a free motherboard header, if you have one..

Unless of course the particular fan control device you end up using has an RPM display built in, then maybe just have all three wires connected to the controller.
