I had some 80mm panaflo's with 2pin tails(ends) that i modded to 3 pin tails so i could connect them to my fan contoller.Here is where my problem is,they are working but my fan contoller has a nice lcd display and it shows the rpm's of the fans but they are not picking these ones up.Could it be the 3pin tail?the wiring?
 
The fan probably doesn't have a RPM sensor on it, so despite the 3-pin connector, you fan controller isn't getting anything from that third wire. If you really want a RPM sensor, you need to get a fan from the BX series from Panaflo.
 
all of my fans are panaflo m1a's with the same wiring set up and the contoller is picking up those fans...........

they have a yellow wire? Or just a black and red wire?
 
Look on the sticker.

L1A = no monitoring, low speed
L1BX = RPM monitoring, low-speed

M1A = no monitoring, medium-speed
M1BX = RPM monitoring, medium speed
 
Side question: My 92mm fan has a 3pin connector but with only two wires (red and black). I wanted to use the 3pin to 4pin (psu) adapter (that only uses two pins) to connect it but noticed that the fan has a ground wire connected to the RPM monitoring pin. It works like that when connected to the motherboard connector but not when using the adapter. So I took out that pin and inserted it to the ground slot and it worked. Can anyone explain why was the ground wire connected to the rpm monitoring pin?
