Hey everyone, I'm almost done building my new box (AMD 4200, 7900GT, etc, etc). Right now my rig has an 80mm side inlet fan, Seasonic PSU and a 120mm exhaust fan in the front. I'm going to be doing a WC setup with a 120mm fan, etc maybe in a few weeks.

Question: Do I really NEED to run an intake fan in the back or will my system be getting enough intake from all the stock fans, etc?

If you're wondering why my case intakes in the rear and exhaust in the front, it's because of the WC setup I want to run will have to intake in the rear.

It would be good to at least have a stream of air, intake on one side and exhaust on the other, otherwise the air will fade out about halfway through the case and the heat will linger

I WOULD have some source of intake, as well as exhaust in your case. Intake fans should always be in the front of the case or on the side, and exhaust fans should traditionally be situated on the back or the top of the case in order to maintain a fairly orderly airflow path/pattern inside the case.

The side intake does help to feed the CPU/memory a little more direct air from outside the case, so I'd keep the fan there if you've got it...and make sure that you're still running some form of intake fan(s) in the front of the case, and that there is some direct form of exhaust in the back of the case.

K thanks for the input.

I totally forgot the reasoning behind me switching the front fan from intake to exhaust but I think it was due to the fact that I'll be mounting my Apex WC kit on the ouside of my case so it'll be acting as an intake into the system from the rear. Sound right?

It should work, but because heat rises it is traditionally better to have the exhaust fans in the back/top of the case, as they are higher up then the front or side intake fans. Not to say you're going to "hurt" anything by reversing a fan or two, temps just might not be as optimal as possible.
