Fan problems on X1900XT with new drivers?

I am trying to isolate what is causing my cooler fan to ramp up and down siginificantly when booting to windows.

It started happening after ATI Tool locked up once after I installed the new 6.8 drivers and still seems to happen. Once I get to windows it seems to settle, but it worries me a little since now I am not sure if ATI Tool is controlling the fan properly.

This isn't the normal intitial boot ramp up, this thing is going up and down like it doesn't know what to set itself at until I get into Windows.

Anyone else seen this issue?

My guess may be that ATItools and the 6.8 drivers are struggling for control of the fan. Try uninstalling ATItools and seeing if that solves the problem.

I have never used ATI drivers, I always use the Omega Drivers found at www.omegadrivers.net.

I think this weekend I am going to reinstall windows alltogether. I am just finalizing my overclocks on my CPU. I decided to quiet down my rig by replacing the TriCool fans with Yate Loons and now I am not happy with my temps. So I lowered my vcore to 1.375 from 1.4, raised my HTT volts to 1.35 and I am hoping I am Prime Stable at 2576...that is just lowering my FSB by 2. From 247 to 245. I am pretty sure I can get stable there, I seem to remember hitting a wall there and having to raise my vcore, but I didn't get much past that without raising the vcore up more to 1.45 and its too hot without really blowing my fans and I want quiet now. I settled on 1.4 because I could not do an FSB at 249 without it. I have a problem with core 1 unfortunately and it seems heat related. It is the one that always fails and when I checked temps with Coretemp, I noticed core 1 temp being 4-5 c higher than core 2 and core 2 is what Speedfan and I think my boards monitor reports. So I think that is why core 1 always fails, it just runs to hot.

BTW What are the Omega drivers? I have seen them mentioned but don't don't know what their advantages are.
