Fan positioning dilemma

I kind of wish I had taken my choice of case/chassis more seriously, because theres a few things that have been bugging me. My computer is oc'd (3.2e @3.7) and is prime95 stable, but when I game for about an hour or so i'll crash. The only problem I can think of is overheating. I got thermal probes on the inside of the case, one really close to my 5900xt chip. This probe reaches temps of 63* C. I'm upgrading to a 6800 ultra soon, i'd imagine my ambient case temp is going to jump a few degrees. First picture: This is what the "grill" area on my plexiglass side window looks like. I have the same grill area on the exhaust blow hole on the top of my case. Now obviously, it looks like more than half the surface area of where the fan is, is covered up by plastic. If I were to dremel a round cirle and put a little grill there, as well as the top exhaust, would I be able to get better cooling in my case???

Second picture is off the crowded area around my cpu. I have 1 80mm exhaust fan thats RIGHT beside my xp-120 and panaflo m1a. Not only that, but directly above the xp-120, is my ocz modstream psu with it's 120mm fan sucking air out. Are the placement of any of these fans (besides the xp-120 fan) problematic??

I'm starting to get a little fed up lol, I might just buy a bigger case with 120mm fan placements :D

What kind of fan do you have on the front of your case? Have the side and front fan blowing in and top and rear fan blowing out. If the fans are in sync in the way they are blowing, then having a lot of fans near your cpu should only help temps.

BTW, graphics cards can get pretty hot. My friends' 6800GTs get up to 65c and they are happy. You only need to worry about gpu temp when it's up near 80c.

If you are worried about 6800U heating up the rest of your system, get a NvSilencer 5. It shouldn't reduce the ultra temps too much, but it will vent the air better and therefore cool your system as a whole more.

What room temp do you have? Can you measure a rough case temp (one not right up next to the gpu)?

Which way is the Panaflo on your XP-120 blowing? I think sucking air away from the heatsink is the generally accepted method.

edit: O yeah, don't worry about the grills. Most cases "block" a lot of the surface area, but if you want to I guss you could cut it out. A lot of new cases have a large amount of the front intake fan blocked by a door or something and only with slits or a few holes to let air out. And they are fine.
 
hmm, i am sure i saw on another thread someone post a section from the thermalright website, stating that you should only ever have the fan sucking air in to the hs when using a thermalright
 
My 5900xt was heating up my case quite alot so i fitted an NV silencer 3 to it and dropped case temps by about 4 degrees (i have 120mm on front 80mm on side over cpu and another 120mm at the back pushing it all out), those things are a bargain and not to hard to fit although you have to use alot of thermal paste to make good contact compared to a cpu though.
 
Altogether I have 5 80mm fans. 4 of which are on a nexus 4 fan controller. The 2 fans that are in the front are sucking air in. The side fan is sucking air in, and it's situated to blow right onto my ram. The rear fan is exhaust, as well as the top blow hole. Then of course the OCZ modstream psu is sucking air out right about my cpu. I was more worried about how the modstream is affecting the cooling ability of my xp-120 by being RIGHT there on top of it :confused:

My case temp ranges anywhere from 36-47 depending on how long it's been running lol. Lastnight after playing BF2 for awhile the case temp was 47* and my cpu was 57*.
 
65cpu temp on an xp120? That seems to be the problem and shoudlnt be... my amd64 shoudl be cooler then your 3.2e; but not THAT much; Ambient on probe under my video card (sig) on a hot usmmer day will read 102f while gaming; but mbm5 will read cpu@40 with those temps. Idle; cpu drops to 30c in 95f weather (all front panel screen reports in f only, but i believe 95f is ~33c, which would mean cpu is below ambient). Add a higher cfm fan to the front of yoru case (want more in then out probably to prevent leaking in air from cracks) and make sure u have a high cfm fan on your 120; and reseat that bad boy properly; those temps cant be right
