was looking in my manual of the ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA and i saw the the cpu fan header can handle 12W i am using the SP120 High Performance Edition fans they use .18A. if i did my math right i can hook up 5.5 fans up to it with out blowing the header i will also be using Sunbeam 20W Rheosmart PCI Slot Smart Fan Controller i was going to use it in strait pwm mode. i was planning to take off all the metal and just use the pcb, connectors and switch. wounder if this would work on the header and if i can hook up all the fans. i was also looking into the Sunbeam 30W Rheosmart 6 Channel Smart Fan Controller but i was reading that it can only control 1 channel at a time on auto.
i was also trying to find out what all the other fan headers can handle{how many watts). also if i connect fans to the other CHA_FAN, CPU_OPT,or OPT_FAN will the fan ramp up and down like the cpu fan header

1) I would not recommend using a single fan header for 5 fans. While the header can supply 1 amps, running it that way continuously is probably not a good idea. Each header is rated for 12W (1 amp)

2) The CPU_OPT header can only control in PWM mode, so you'd need a chassis fan header for the pump I suspect.

3) The chassis fan headers and Fan Xpert will control your fans (albeit in DC mode). I'd try that before you start tryin anything elaborate with a single header..
