Fan grills too restrictive?

Currently I have a Lian-Li PC65-B, and I was planning on cutting out all of the fan grills on the case because they dont seem like they let in too much air and its pretty warm in my room now. I was thinking of replacing them with some sort of wire mesh similar to a screen on a window, except metal. It seems like it would allow more air in than my current situation but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

depends how big the holes in the mesh are...if you get small holes, it could be just as bad, or worse....but big holes and it will be REAL nice... :)

the holes I was originally thinking of were pretty small. I havent actually gone to the hardware store to see what even exists though, this is all a theory at this point.

Wire mesh (like screening) tends to clog, even in a relatively clean room.
You can buy fan 'filters' that are nothing but screen, to keep the inside of your case cleaner. They clog and become an impediment to airflow rather quickly.

If airflow is your goal, cut out the built in fan guard in the case and switch to a standard steel-wire-type fanguard. It'll be quieter too.

Well I would have no guards, as I'm not worried about me sticking my fingers in. I am worried about idiots coming into my room and sticking something into it and screwing it up. Also theres a fan on the top where something could fall in so I dont want that either. So, I need something. I was just at a few hardware stores and they had chicken wire or something that would have been good except you have to buy 20 feet of it and its like 12 bucks which is way too much for a simple project like this. So, now I'm going to contemplate something else maybe, or keep looking for a smaller amount of that stuff.

i say alwase put a grill on both sides, if you can, nothing like moving the case wall and having it dip into the fan and send some blads flying at you, (or anywhere and then you need another fan)

if your ok with cleaning it off the mesh its a fine idea, cutting the stamped case grills is a damn good idea, im a fan of wire grills they work, they are cheap, not restrictive, and look ok to me but thats personal preferance.

you can use a dremil to cut the grills out, or a hole saw, or a bolt cutter to snip the grill out and then grind it down to a round smoth edge, (not matter what you make the hole with you should hit the edge with a grinding wheal to smoth it out, and get any metal burrs off the case so they dont come lose, and short out your pc, and be sure to gut the case b4 you do any cutting for the same reason (but im sure you know that)

good luck eaither way you go, and happy modding

Ive just cut my fan guards and am not using any grills.

I keep the fans slow enough to be silent so if you catch your finger on them it doesnt hurt.

I was thinking of using wire mesh just like the ones on wire strainers, the kind you would
find in a cookware dept. Nice thin wires with relative large holes.

i have an antec slk1600, and the back of case, has a fan and the grill is horrible on it. It makes noise because only about 60% of air is getting through! I hate it!!! :p

If the fan's location permits, I like to use a little bit of plastic gutter guard. It's minimally restrictive.

Yeah I was thinking of something that looks almost exactly like that stuff except metal. Cant seem to find anything though where I dont have to buy a huge amount of it so maybe I'll go with that.
