Hands down Gentle Typhoons.
Good alternative includes the Corsair SP series, some Cougar models, Noctua, and Noiseblockers.
Yes, they are good for horizontal use.
The normal models range from AP-11 to AP-15. Each model differs in the speed they run at. The AP-11 turns at 500 RPM while the AP-15 turns at 1850 RPM, with others filling up the gap.
The high speed models range from AP-29 to AP-31. Their fan speed ranges from 3000 RPM to 5400 RPM, which, as you can imagine, are quite noisy.
If you have a fan controller you can use, I would suggest going with the AP-15. If not, then the AP-14 or AP-13 for quiet to silent operation.
There is nothing in the traditional fan space that has outdone the Gentle Typhoon.
There's the Black Ice SR-1 and the Alphacool Nexxos UT60. The UT60 is one of the top performers for low fan speed operation, but it is very thick, thicker than the RX radiators I believe.
The Black Ice GTX series can't be beat with push/pull Gentle Typhoons though.
I dont plan doing push/pull. ill only do single fan config. pulling from the outside/pushing through the rad going inside. That being said, is the RX240 is the way to go?
RX, UT60, and SR-1 are all top contenders in the low fan speed area. I believe the UT60 is the best, followed by the SR-1 and then the RX. However, all of them perform very close.
I forget where the review is at but if my memory serves me right I read a review on the UT60 that showed that it has the best scaling for fans over 2000 RPM and the performance scaling with higher RPM fans was stated to be related to the all copper materials used in the fins. Wish I had the link.
UT60 performs just as good as the best for low RPM but with high speed fans the performance increase keeps on going.
so if I go with the UT 60 with low rpm fans it will be on par with the Rx, but has the capability of outperforming it by increasing the rpm(making it louder of course)?
Yes, although I doubt it will be able to scale as well as the GTX series, especially in push/pull with gentle typhoons. There are some things that a low FPI design cannot overcome over a high FPI design.
But since your primary concern is low-speed performance with high-speed performance fairly minor, just go with the UT60, SR-1, or RX radiators. You can't go wrong with any of them.
About 1400 RPM and below for only push or pull.
ok thanks. ill definitely go for the gentle typhoons.
