I just purchased a 9800 pro and have heard lots of bad stories about their stock hsf and am wondering if I wasn't going to oc it is it possible to play games very regularily without heat problems?

It is designed to keep the core under optimal thermal conditions... if it doesn't work then you have a faulty card.

I haven't had any problems, I was just reading alot of posts about getting new coolers. Just making sure that it'd be fine because I play alot of ut2k4 and am hoping to be able to crank it up pretty high now

They do it either for:

1) Lower noise
2) Higher overclockability

But they also void the warranty.

i have heat problem b4 when i play NFS underground 2.................after i got a Zalman VF700-Cu VGA Cooler,,,,,the problem's gone.....
