using the nzxt sentry mix controller. was using an fc touch but wanted something more simple looking. the 4 cougars seem to be working correctly, though it's hard to tell. but the spectre pro definitely seems to have slowed down a lot on this controller. the temps have risen so this supports my theory. the controller is supposed to control from 40%-100% but when i have it all the way down on the spectre the fan turns completely off. i noticed that all the connectors are 2 pin instead of 3 and i have a feeling this has something to do with it but i don't know enough about this stuff to accurately make that judgment.

Not sure what could be happening, but if you have a lot of fans on one channel, this type of behavior can occur.

You can try disconnecting the RPM wire (yellow) and hooking it up to a motherboard fan header to read the RPM. 2 pin vs 3 doesn't matter... the 3rd pin is just a tachometer wire so something that is able to can display the RPM.

On a side note, I'll take that fc touch ;)

only have one fan on each channel.

i am selling it.... that is if i don't decide to just use it instead. i love the fc touch, the controller is so well made. i adjust the speeds manually a lot though and the touch screen makes that kind of a pain. would buy another lamptron if they made one i liked aesthetically that wasn't so expensive. the fc5v2 is nice but i don't want to drop that much money again.

Your wording is rather odd...

I don't really understand the problem exactly. Are you saying when you have the fans at their maximum setting on the new controller, your temperatures are higher than they were on the old controller at the same setting?

Not all fan controllers offer a full 12V output. Some will have a voltage drop when maxed out, up to a whole volt. It's doubtful you'd really notice that difference though.

yes i am saying that.

the controller is also supposed to control at a 40%-100% rpm range and the fan is turning off completely when at the lowest setting (lowest setting should be 40% not off).

the others are not coming to a full stop but i did notice they did not turn back on when at lowest setting after the computer woke up after sleep, until i turned them up.

noise and temps are both lower at 100% than with the other controller.

You might have a defective fan controller in that case.

I'll buy the FC touch if the price is right, I have been looking for one.

well, with amazons excellent return policy i'm just going to send this back and get an fc5v2. lamptron is too great not to buy another controller from them. just wish they would improve their bracket design. and i'll stay away from nzxt controllers forevermore. had a sentry lx before i got the fc touch and sent that back before the month was up too... should have learned my lesson the first time. or maybe i just expect too much, w/e....

i'll sell the touch but also only if the price is right, it's less than two months old and i can use it for other computers. lowest i've seen it online for is $70. i would ask $60 with free shipping (in the us)... does $10 off with no tax and free shipping seem reasonable for a practically new item? i dunno... pm if you are interested.

Fan controllers can definitely undervolt a fan enough to turn it off completely, especially depending on what brand of fan you're using.

Sucks about the 100% setting though, sounds like it does need to be returned.

I'll have to contemplate that, thanks.

I'm never dealing with NZXT again though, the Sentry 2 that I have makes my fans have clicking noises.

i have noticed that since installing this controller too... it's not there all the time. i will notice it every once in awhile, it lasts a few mins then goes away again.
