Fan controller guide?

I want to make my own fan controller as I don't have the money to spend on a premade one. I am pretty good with a soldering iron and the basic ideal of electronics and wires.

Could someone point me in the right direction as to a guide of some sort that is pretty simple?

I have 3 120mm fans in my antec sonata that i'd like to control.

Nothing fancy so long as it gets the job done:)

thanks for the link again, but instead I just 12volted my 120mm fan to 7v :) and its alot nicer and bearable.

I also sleeved 2 cables so far the splitter to my 6600 and the 120mm sunon fan

sleeving rocks!

Im considering making a rheostat idk yet I have to weigh my options
 
If you use a rheostat...do the math and find out if the thing can dissipate the heat it takes in (and make sure you are not going over the rated spec). I made this mistake when wiring a single rheostat to bring 3 120mm fans to between 5 and 7 volts. The thing overheated, caused a short, and the wires on one of my fans began to melt. Good thing I was home and caught it, because my rig, much less my entire home could have burned down.

Yeah, I realize it was dumb, but I learned my lesson. The good thing was nothing was damaged except the wire so all I needed to do was replace it. The fan worked fine afterwards.

Just remember that the more resistance you add (the slower you make your fans move) the more heat you are adding to the rheostat. They can only take so many amps flowing through them.
