I wanted to swap the 40mm fans in my server out with ones that are quieter and more efficient. I bought 5 40mms that have a 2 pin connector that you can plug into a 3 pin connector. Well I had all the fans plugged into their respective 3 pin connectors and then I plugged them into the motherboard of the server. The fans would not spin up at all and I am wondering what the heck. I'm new to servers but and there probably is some weird standard for server fans or something I don't know. While comparing the connectors of the stock fans to the new ones the stock fans had actually 4 pin holes, 2 cables were black, 1 was red and the the other was spaced out from the rest and was blue. Is there anyway to get the new fans to work with my server or am I screwed?

Thanks,

Dan

eh, I dunno, should work fine IMO. Might want to buy a MOLEX to 2 pin fan adapter. I use those all the time, and they work wonders, and actually provide more reach. They are like 25 cents a piece if you find them in teh right place, and they are usually pass through, so you can use 4 of them off the same original molex connector :)

lol I totally forgot about this method. I Had a few of these laying around so I will try them tonight. Thanks for the reply!
