fan baybus +ccfl?

i read a bunch of tutorials on making a fanbus, and all fans use a molex connector right? so i was wondering if one of those cold cathode light tubes used the molex connector, so that i can connect that to the baybus. is this possible?
 
not all fans use molex connectors, infact most use 3 pin fan connectors. but it is very possable (and has been done a lot) to connect your CCFL lights to a baybus. however, i only advise that you hook the lights up to a switch on the bay bus, not a dimmer knob. in either case, you wont beable to dim the lights. they will either run (full power) or not (anything less).

if you want to make a 3pin fan to molex connector, its pretty easy. red-yellow, black-black (fan-molx).

You can dim them, to an extent, but not with a PWM fan controller. It would quickly destroy the Inverter.
 
dont the three-pin connectors have three wires? another green one? do i just leave that hangin, or cut it?

also, if just get the power cable from the ccfl, and plug it in to the baybus, it'll work right?
 
its a yellow wire for rpm reading.

It would work as long as you dont overload the baybus. I have no idea how much power a ccfl draws so you could blow up your baybus or it will work.
 
yeah the three pins sometimes have a 3rd wire (middle wire, sometimes yellow, sometimes green). this is for fan speed sensing. you can just cut it.

or you could splice right into the wires if you have screw connectors on your baybus.

AWDARK -- inverters will draw .5amp... 6w at 12v. plenty of baybusses can handle this
 
If I wanted to measure that on a multimeter, how would I go about doing that? disconnect ground attach to multimeter attach other probe to the other end of the circuit?

(If I am wayy off thats why I ask)
