I've got a rig that I'm building for my mom. It's using a Radeon Xpress 1100 motherboard with a Sempron processor (stock heatsink/fan). Graphics and sound are on-board so all it really had in the case is the DVD and hard drives. The case itself has no built-in fans and that makes me a little jittery, even if it'll never be overclocked. The case has no fan options for the front, but I can put either an 80mm on the side near the CPU or a 120mm on the back. The motherboard only has one plug for a fan that I can find so I cannot do both. Which would you guys recommend?

Whatever happens make sure there is a fan blowing air over/near the hard disk or it will die!
In your case, I would blow air in the side next to the CPU and out of the back.
I'd also fit an 80mm fan blowing onto the hard disk(s).
This will also help circulate air inside the case more which is required as there is no wind tunnel effect to aid cooling of components that arent near a fan.

If this is a board w/onboard video and is really just a basic machine, you may not need much of anything to cool it down. Don't get caught up in Chernobyl saying that "Whatever happens make sure there is a fan blowing air over/near the hard disk or it will die!" because thats not totally true.

If I were you, I'd just use a low cfm 120 as an exhaust to put some negative pressure in the case and keep things nice and cool, even on 100+F days. If you've got a spare 80mm, you could use that on the side too, but it isn't necessary.

LOL, please check ur source.

anyways a good fan is 120mm fan, if u can avoid an 80mm fan and get 120 then it is much better. you can mod ur case(make a hole w/ a dremel) to accomodate 120mm fans. u can use the 4pin molex connector to power ur fan, just get a 4pin molex to 3pin adopter.

Thanks for the advice guys. I ordered a 120mm for the back and I'll monitor the system temp to see if it needs anymore.
