Ive installed from the DVD and Ive downloaded multiple DVD images to see if my DVD was screwed so I know my DVD probably isnt messed up. Does it when installing from any of them.

First off, I cant select "Autoplay" with the DVD in or I get an error message that says, "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect". I have to install it by navigateing to the Setup.

I cant run the Launcher it gives me the SAME error message. The Fallout3.exe does nothing.

Thoughts? Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the game about 6 times. Ive installed every "fix" that seems to be out there on Google. Installed the C++ redistributables and tried to update my Windows Installer.

Change your DVD rom out. It may not be copying the files correctly to your HDD. Thats the only thing I can come up with.

Haha welcome to Fallout 3 for some people. I still have the box sitting on my desk, unplayed since I bought it. Enjoy the paper weight, I sure know that I have. I love looking at it, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Ive installed from the DVD and about 4 different downloaded DVD images. I also installed from my friends disk over the network. Its just not working. I literally just reinstalled this computer yesterday afternoon so I know there isnt any shit on here.

Maybe an issue with Securom? I have no idea. BLARG

wow, that is really strange. Well, try it on a different Hard Drive =/ sounds like alot of work, and you shouldnt have to go to extremes to play a game, always helps to find the problem though.

Just cant figure out whats causing it. I know all my drivers, updates, etc are the latest because I did them all yesterday. o_O

Umm something probably too simple for this but...(if on Vista)

Make sure you are the administrator and that you have checked Run as Administrator? Just a random idea...

So wait, you got it installed and the game doesn't run, is that the problem? I'm not sure I understand the issue.

If that's the case, try getting the patches for the game first. At least up to about 1.2. Apparently 1.5 screws the game up for some people, though it seems fine for me (playing on machine in sig)

assuming the specs in your sig are correct, have you played it on your hardware before? can a 7800 handle it?

What OS are you using? Is it up to date? Is DirectX fully up to date?

Two suggestions:

Start going backwards with drivers. BF2 would not start for me with ati's 94 drivers. I went back to 88, and it works perfect.

if that doesn't work, try disabling your antivirus and then reinstall.

I had a heck of a time getting this game to run when I installed it back around Christmas. It turned out to be a problem with Games for Windows Live trying to force Fallout to use a corrupt .dll. I have no idea if this has anything to do with your problem, but I thought I'd mention it in case it does. I was going to post a link with instructions for disabling Fallout's ability to call up Windows Live, but unfortunately the page has been taken down. Good luck! I wish I could be more help.

Clock your machine back down and see if it improves.
If the memory or CPU isnt quite stable, you can have strange errors.
A machine I just built runs everything thats already installed fine when clocked.
Installing new stuff fails with the same errors each time until I clocked it a bit slower, now it installs everything fine.

I'd say a 7800 should definitely be able to handle it. I was playing it on an 8800 GTX not too long ago, and it ran just about perfectly at 1280x1024 with max settings.

FO3 is just buggy. On my system, Xp32/Vista64 dual boot. It will not run in Vista 64, but sort of runs (it still sometimes crashed) OK in XP32. On one of my kid's computers it is the exact opposite. The forums, the trouble shooting guides, nothing really worked. It was a pain in the ass. The game works OK on most people's setups, but on some setups the game just does not work without playing driver and/or OS musical chairs.

Try the FO3 forums and try the fixes posted there one at a time. It might work out for you.

Specs in sig are pretty much corrent. I havent upgraded in a LONG time... lol. Use to every 4 months.

I was under the assumption I should be able to handle this game. The problem is that I get the error message mentioned above when trying to make the cd "autoplay" and when trying to actually open the games exe after installing.

Gonna try a few things.

Just looked at your specs. Honestly, I think the Athlon 3200+ and 1 GB of RAM are going to give you more trouble with this game than anything else, if you get it working at all. At the very least you should probably get another gig of RAM.

Im gonna build a new box sometime soon.

Here's the sys req's. You already meet the minimum, so you SHOULD be able to at least run on low. I'll look around a bit as well.

Minimum System Requirements:

Windows XP/Vista
1GB System RAM (XP)/ 2GB System RAM (Vista)
2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 256MB RAM (NVIDIA 6800 or better/ATI X850 or better)

Recommended System Requirements:

Intel Core 2 Duo processor
2 GB System RAM
Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512MB RAM (NVIDIA 8800 series, ATI 3800 series)

I would try a No DVD patch to see if it's a Securom issue. You have bought the game but this is probably still illegal so be careful. Worth a shot though.

My brother played the game on an athlon 3400+ and 1.5GB DDR-333. I saw the game run on an ATI x1300, although it was unplayable, it ran. I don't think it has anything to do with system specs. I played on my i7 with GTX260 and 6GB RAM, neither had any issues.

Yeah, but trying to run a game on minimum spec is horrible. A lot of the time it's unplayable even though it technically "runs". Also, he didn't mention if he was using XP or Vista, but I certainly hope with 1 GB RAM it would be XP. If Vista, then he doesn't meet the minimum requirements.

this is actually a really good idea and may help you.

Stalker CS gives a stupid error that the game isnt installed in the correct directory because of something with tages DRM. I'm forced to use the autorun off the CD to even play it so the only other option was to use a no CD exe if I wanted to launch it from vista games explorer or the start menu

I tried a no cd crack from Gamecopyworld and it didnt help - same error. Im gonna try a few other things and see if it works. Also, Im running XP. I can run Oblivion perfect at 1280x1024 so I figured I might be able to run Fallout3 fairly decently. Still need to upgrade though.
