Fallout 3 Manual

Good find.
PC version of the manual only, thread should be in the PC section. :p

Nice... it kind of sucks how much they hype NVIDIA cards on the last page, although it's good that you can max it out on a GF 8600+. That means low system requirements.

I'm kind of sick of every game being an "NVIDIA: The Way It's Meant to be Played" game. It's bad for PC gaming as a whole to have NVIDIA bribing companies to gimp software on AMD's cards. Crysis was a great example of this; I hope Fallout 3 is playable on all types of hardware.

Reading through the manual just makes me more excited for this game tho...

I highly doubt an 8600 is going to max it out. I think they're blowing a bit of smoke up your skirt.

That's what it says in the manual. I don't give a shit if it's true or not. I'm guessing I'll be able to get playable framerates with my GTX 280...

And the Optimus keyboard will cost as much as a good cell phone, and Crysis will be able to max details out on mainstream video cards. Lets not get into what companies promise ;)

Time to start planning your character! Though I will forget until the day it is released, then I will have a poorly created character.

Nice, 70 perks, thats good to see, looks like they covered everything from guns blazing to hand to hand judo chop.

Thanks for the post.

Really?? I don't believe for a second that anything is being gimped. This is just advertising and I don't see how it hurts anyone. Nvidia pays game co. for add splashscreen. Game co gets money and can increase game dev budget (hopefully). And you might have to see the logo a couple times when you start your game. Is that really so bad?

Well in the case of Crysis, the game plays like ass on any ATI hardware, because the developers ONLY test the game on NV hardware. It was sad how much more playable the game was with my G80 8800 GTS vs. my HD 3870 and then later my 3870X2 Crossfire.

Or in the case of Assassins Creed, another "The Way It's Meant to Be Played" game, when it comes out that the game supports DX10.1 and is actually FASTER on ATI hardware, Ubi releases a patch to REMOVE DX10.1 and effectively gimp the game on ATI hardware.

NVIDIA claims their program is just marketing, but going from their history, it's a lot shadier than that. Their business practices are questionable at best. NVIDIA sucks.

Nice find, thanks for the link. It feeds my pre-release hunger. I love the imersive detail in games like this an Bioshock. Anyone else thing the Vault logo on the front cover looks just a little bit art deco?

I don't know about art deco , but it looks just like the first manual , which is cool

I'd love to see this claim substantiated. Feel free to take as much time as you need ;)

In general though, a little less conspiratorialism would be great.

Now, back on topic...while the manual definitely keeps to the style of the originals, the length is pretty laughable in comparison. The manuals for the original games were beefy, 100+ page spiral bound behemoths, and they went into a pretty incredible amount of detail (the second one especially). This one is...unsurprisingly brief.

I find it hard to believe they didn't ever test this on any ATI cards. Is it really that much trouble? I'm guessing that's just part of their deal with Nvidia, which requires them to say it was tested only on those, but If they really didn't, isn't that kind of risking a huge backlash from consumers if the game runs like ass on new Radeons?

Well our PC games don't come in Huge ass boxes anymore either :p

Anyway, thanks for the heads up OP. I can plan out my H2H female(if its atleast 10% like fallout 2 you'll end up dismembering WAY more guys than you would women) ninja character now. Might have to give up luck or Intelligence though.

Here's to hoping for lots of replay value due to builds and not being forced into Power Armor for the end parts of the game.

So it's bad to work with the developers closely, so that the game runs better on their hardware ?! That's pretty funny...

I don't think you understand that if AMD had actually worked with Crytek more closely, maybe their cards would've performed better in Crysis. That's clearly not a NVIDIA problem, but an AMD one. Then again, AMD cannot afford working with developers closely, because they have no money to spare...and that again is not NVIDIA's fault.

Of course they tested it on Radeons, they just gave priority to GeForces, because NVIDIA worked with them closely do improve performance on their hardware. If AMD had done the same, they wouldn't have to deal with potential performance problems out of the box, that can only be fixed through new drivers. As I said in my previous post, that's an AMD (or ATI) problem, that never really worked closely with developers, at least in the majority of games.

Do you still need to have Windows Vista in order to play this game?

I am very excited for this, but having a hard time determining what system to buy it for.

If the modding community is anything like Oblivion's then the PC version. Hell, I still play Oblivion just because of mods.

They dropped the Vista Only crap after that marketing blunder. Although I use Vista, I'm glad they haven't restricted everyone else from enjoying a game.
