So I reinstalled fallout 3 a few nights ago with the intentions of grabbing an addon DLC.

Well long story short I am sucked into the original game again and was wondering if I just up and grab all 4 addons and install them will it screw up anything or do/can they operate along side the vanilla game?

Can I jump over to alaska and dabble over there mabye grab one of the new weapons then jump back over to DC and continue what I started there?

I understand that Broken Steel picks up after you finish the main story line in the "first" game so does having that in chance screwing up my main run through?

i dont think so because the DLC is access from with in the regular game world.

No, you can download and install them whenever. They just add new locations for you to visit. I would suggest making sure broken steel is installed before reaching level 20 though or else any XP you gain after hitting 20 and before broken steel is installed will be lost.

Honestly, is any of this DLC worth the money? Could these be considered an expansion pack in quality? I'm a little reluctant to hand Microsoft money for a couple of locations that could be spent on a full game.

I thought all of them except Operation Anchorage was worth the money.

Operation Anchorage is like the corridor shooter version of Fallout 3. A very linear romp through Alaska preceding a showdown with the ultimate Chinese commie dude. Depends if you're into that sort of thing, I'm not.

The Pitt is set in a super-industrialized Pittsburg, has a very cool city to explore and a great story with some very morally gray choices to make. It's got some good new weapons too (Auto Axe)

Broken Steel just kicks ass. You go on this huge quest through some new locations spread throughout the Capital Wasteland and your level cap is increased to 30. It's worth it for that alone, but the quests are actually fun. Cool new weapons, couldn't say more without being a spoiler.

Point Lookout is a whole new map to explore, very big, new enemies, new weapons and great attention to detail. The main quest is fun but a bit short, and there are some side quests. I still haven't finished exploring it.

So I'd say at least 3 out of 4 of the expansions are worth the money, and possibly all of them if you want. They all give you new achievements.

As far as DLC goes, people bitch about it constantly, but Fallout 3 gives you a shit ton of content right out of the box. The DLC is definitely worth the money, but you should finish the main game first... there's already a ton of content there. I had 1000 gamerpoints and completed the main game before going onto the DLC, and I'm glad I did. The expansions are definitely geared towards higher level players.

Is MS Live the only way to get all of the DLC and how much are they? I noticed Newegg had Point Lookout and Operation Anchorage bundled for $20 but they didn't have Broken Steel and the other one.

I'm pretty sure each DLC is $10. The Newegg bundle is actually Pack 1. This includes The Pitt (not Point Lookout) and OA. Pack 2 is scheduled for a release in August. Pack 2 will include BS and Point Lookout as shown here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832136014

In October, a GOTY edition will be released. This will include all five DLC and the original FO3 game for <$50. Newegg Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832136015

The DLC is fun definitely added more to do. Also worth a look are some of the mods like FOOK and Marts Mutant Mod.

The only downside is that I have the issue where broken steel is broken. Having to summon NPCs to areas where they should be gets boring and definitely breaks all the immersion.

Great, thanks for the review of each DLC.

Yes, you can install them all at will. No problems whatsoever.

No, Operation Anchorage is a bit special, so you need to finish the mission before you can leave Alaska. Broken Steel is also different, because the action happens in the Wasteland from the original game and you can only play it after you finish the main quest. All the other DLC, yes you can go in and out at will.

I thought the pitt was under developed. It had great potential, but they fell short of what I was expecting. The AutoAxe is sweet, but not worth the DLC cost ultimately I believe. The story is interesting, but everything is so rushed, there isn't anything to really explore. Just wasn't much to do IMO.

Anchorage is boring and lame IMO. The Chinese stealth suit it adds is sweet though.

Broken steel is (or was I haven't checked for a patch since it came out) broken. Right now I can't get off the vertibird for the good ending. Other then that it was a very good DLC, and if they have fixed that I'ld say get it. it adds a lot of good content to the game, and is actually very fun.

I haven't played since I spent an hour or so tryign to get the ending so I haven't tried the new DLC yet. Maybe I will have to load it up and check it out.
