I have an ATI X1950 Pro, and recently my system has been BSODing. I updated BIOS and reinstalled a bunch of stuff, and it's still here. Now, when I play BF2, sometimes the screen replaces certain textures with black or white for a second, and it has artifacted at least once.

I thought nothing of the BF2 issue until I started using two monitors. The second one often enters an error state where the output is a bunch of vertical lines buzzing back and forth, or just a screen whiting out. It's not the monitor, it works perfectly on another computer, but it is annoying me.

So, is there a problem, and can I fix it? If not, I'll have to RMA it to Velocity Micro.

I use a Nvidia card but Ive noticed numerous dual monitor issues since Ive went to Vista. Did the issue start after you went to Vista or after you added the second monitor? Id also try a different PSU before I did an RMA, just incase its having issues.
 
The BF2 thing has been around since the start with XP, and the PSU apparently has no issues, since the BSODS indicate a hardware failure/ driver issue. I know it's not drivers cause I've done several reinstalls of Vista with new drivers.

I only went to duals in Vista, so I can't comment on that aspect.
 
you could try the artifact tester in ati tool(ati tool will also list temps) if the heatsink is clean and its not overheating its probably the card
 
I tired the artifact tester, and here's what happened.

-Temps went form 42 C* to 75 C*
- No Artifacting

Strange, because the sink is clean.
 
maybe try leaving it running while playing bf2 (exit at the first sign of artifacts so you could check temps) you could also try using atitool to run the fan at 100% :confused:
might be worth reinstalling the video drivers(which ones are you running?)
 
I just reinstalled Vista yesterday, and am running ATI Drivers 7.4. The card just mysteriously dropped in temperature from 75 to 48 after 10 mins of the test. Strange.

BF2 has temps of about 60 C*. (This was from a test I did yesterday on Dragon Valley in a J-10)
 
might be worth forcing the fans to 100% and see if the problem pops up again. (J-10, ugh)
 
Will do.

LOL, J-10. As an ground-attack pilot, it's hard as hell to get bombs on target with one of those.
