I bought a laptop for school/programming use back in September. I havent had any problems with it until this week. I keep getting a message for corrupt files. It says "the file or directory C:/Users/MyName/AppData/Roaming (and sometimes the extension)/windows is corrupt and unreadable . Please run ChkDsk utility. This goes for when i try to open Chrome, Itunes or anything.
When i try to run the chkdsk utility it tells me that I can't do it while the HDD is in use so i schedule it to start when the computer boots. I reboot the computer and the utility never runs.
Another thing. My background is now all black and i never changed it. When i try to use a saved picture as a background it says "This application has requested the RUntime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the apps support team for more information. I don't know if that is relevant to the problem but It could be so I'm asking.
Ive read a little about this on google and it was mentioned that this is often the symptoms of a failing HDD with vista. Does anyone have any suggestions or input for this problem. I've also got a 4 year warranty on the computer but I'd rather not go through that hassle unless absolutely necessary. Thanks for any input.
Another thing. I've tried to do a system restore to an earlier point but again it tells me that C: has errors. I must check the disk for errors before it can be restored. That takes me back to the ChkDsk problem. Any programs or applications to help me through this?
