My roommate just reinstalled Win XP Pro on his computer, and is now unable to connect to the internet. We tried reinstalling windows again, to no avail. When I choose the "repair this connection" option in network connections, I get an error that says "Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed."

Any insights as to what the problem may be and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Could also be an adapter problem. Reload the drivers or get a different nic.

My roommate, unable to live with out the internet for half a day, went out and picked up a NIC from best buy, which fixed the problem.

Before he was using onboard, the dirvers were installed and the device was "working properly", according to windows. The first reinstall was a full reformat, the second a repair.

( He paid over $40 for a 10/100 card that newegg sells for $21 after shipping  )
